I bet nobody thought Rashford was ready to step up and play first team football and he'd only scored 1 goal in 10 u21 games this season (Harrison has 9 in 13 fwiw).

Spending a ton of money for a third striker that will likely not play is senseless. Have a little faith that our highly rated academy striker could step up and play a few games if both our first two strikers get injured. Which is very unlikely as our fitness team is top class.

Just an observation:

As much as we (The club) have to try and keep players happy.

They (the players) have to try and keep the club happy.

If we sign players which results in several players fighting it out for a few positions....then great....lets test the lads ability, determination and character to see who makes it at our club....

Some of us need to understand we have the potential to grow to be an elite club and players want to be apart of that.

In summary, if Poch believes we need to sign 2 forwards (for example 'bat' and lacazette) then great....lets see which players sink or swim when faced with competition!

Good post and totally agree.

Ferguson was the best example of this as he was never afraid to cast out a fans favourite if he thought there were better options out there and often upgraded in players that didn't seem to need upgrading at the time.

Ultimately I will trust Poch to know what he needs whether it is 1 or 2 forwards extra

So if we sacrifice Chadli, as well as Fazio, Yedlin and Carroll, is that 15/18 mill?

If we sell Bentaleb or Mason too, perhaps we can indeed afford Bats and Lacazette?

But if we do splash that much on forwards I can't see us buying a dm.

I've been impressed by Alli on the rare occasions he's been deployed deeper, however, so perhaps him and Mason back up Dier and Dembele? Looks a little light to me if so.

Who knows. Last summer was full of surprises...

I think this is a valid argument. If Harrison is that good, I'd love to see him given some chances next season. Same as Onomah this season. That's the direction we're hopefully heading. But Rashford only came in when United's CL campaign was over, they were scrabbling for PL top 4, and their whole attacking game was a mess. All credit to Rashford for taking his chance. But at the start of the Season, Van Gaal had lined a whole series of options before relying on youth.

Ultimately it's obviously Poch's choice (within market / financial constraints). He's shown every sign of wanting to promote from within as his preference. But it would be putting huge pressure on any young academy graduate to say "do a Rashford" because we need you to. Much better to be able to say "go and show us what you can do" in a few substitute appearances or Capital One cup games, not because we need you to, but because we'd love you to. Huge difference.

Whoops. F'd up. Part of my comment is contained in the quoted bit (from CJ Murray) above. Can't be assed to re-write the rest now.

Hey, it works if you 'click to expand'.

Yeah Van Gaal spent ages playing people out of position up front (like Poch has) before stumbling onto the realisation that Rashford is the better option. Something I hope Poch does as I think Harrison is a better option than playing Chadli or Son up front.

We don't even need Harrison to "do a Rashford", we just need him to carry on developing and perhaps come off the bench in the domestic cups. Assuming we sign a striker like Batshuayi there will really be very little pressure on Harrison as it's extremely unlikely we'll be relying on him to start in the prem with Kane only missing one game in the past 2 seasons.

None of the big names will be coming to us especially after that performance today.

Come on thats incredulous, its all about the money in the grand scheme of things its our final position in the table that counts but that is still secondary to money.

Nah, we have PL money and CL. They don't care about anything else.
Indeed

Winning 5-1 today would have made us no more capable of signing him or any other big name than losing 5-1 will have made it more difficult

It will only come down to how much money we are offering his club and him vs his options (money offered and potential at the club)

Today was hardly a ringing endorsement of a team wanting to compete in the champions league agreed, but it did show that apart from our team losing their shitters recently we need to strengthen whether we get this fella is another matter more likely a cheaper option will be looked at.

who questions it?

he never stops running from minute 0-90 for marseille even when they are down and out
His attitude to the game has been questioned time and time again before this season, also the Belgian manager has stated before that he isn't enough of a team player, not saying he's a bad player but I would rather we got someone elae.

Why will it make it more difficult?

Lyon 2nd in the league lost their final game 4-1 to the team who finished 2nd bottom
A Madrid lost their 2nd from last game and their title hopes to the bottom team 2-1

Are they thinking 'oh sh*t we'll struggle to sign players now?', I doubt it.

I just think some times , we need to have a plan b . Ie: two up top , we seem to stick to one way of playing . Occasionally we change . But never seen a 4-4-2 yet .
Also proves our back up players are not up to it .
Coys
Still think we've had a great season , roll on champions league .
