Didnt see that coming. Is this a Conte signing?
Anyway, I dont think he will be a hit at chelsea.
I'm starting to think we won't sign this lad.
Chelsea signing him is just a smokescreen.

£33m, likely well over £100k per week for a player from the French league, who wouldn't even be the main striker here, it's the right call walking away to be fair. Bit of a strange one for Chelsea but I guess they are hoping for Drogba mk2.
Chelsea may well be playing 3-5-2 though so maybe he'll be partnering Costa up top?
I'd quite like us to play 3-5-2 as miss the days of strike partnerships

Back 3 sets get murdered in the Prem. We've seen it happen time and again where they can get away with it for a few games and then the puzzle gets solved. LvG tried it, Rodgers tried it, Bilic tried it, heck plenty have tried. There's still too many teams that overload the wings and fling in crosses for fun and that's really tough for back 3s to handle.Chelsea may well be playing 3-5-2 though so maybe he'll be partnering Costa up top?

He used the Same 3 CBs and GK at both, they're used to the system. Back 3 sets work in Italy and they work at the national level. LVG had great success with a back 3 for Holland and it got immediately destroyed when he tried it here.True, but none of those 3 are italian, worldclass tactician though. Im nor saying it would work here for sure bit surely there is a better chance with conte though? I mean, the italian defence in general and Juventus under Conte were pretty decent

Well that's the point...if they don't handle it then it doesn't work...there have been a plethora of strong Italian managers in this league who have used back 3's. Getting it to work here is incredibly different. That is true. But still think it could work in the PL with a man like Conte in the dugout. Idk if the chelsea defenders could handle it though

He won't have Buffon, Bonucci, Barzagli, and Chiellini with him like he did at Juve and the national team.
Yeah, he reportedly used a back 4 more than he even used a back 3 while he was at Juve.He built both his Juve and Italy teams around those 4. Those 3 centre backs play so well together, they can read each other so well. It just won't work at Chelsea unless he can craft something there. Conte hasn't always been a 3-5-2 guy though. Beforehand he was very much 4-4-2 and after Ranieri's success with that kind of formation he may revert to it (albeit Conte normally does it as a diamond with a DM, 2 CMs and an AM). He was also known to go 4-3-3 on occasion with Juve if there was an injury or suspension to one of the back 3. He's flexible if he needs to be.
