I'm not saying Chris Hughton or Gus Poyet will be the ones to replace Harry but both of them are ex-spurs assistant managers and players and both of them have good managing careers so far at their level.

Gus Poyet saved Brighton from relagation his first season, got them promoted to the championship the second, and they are currently in the middle of the championship. Its not impossible to imagine he'll be managing in the premier league for another team in a couple years.

Meanwhile Chris Hughton has spent a total of 27 at spurs. 13 as a player and 14 as a coach (U-21, Reserve, and Assistant) before getting sacked with Jol. Hughton won the championship with Newcastle before getting sacked controversially, and is currently sitting in 6th spot with Birmingham.

If either one of these managers keeps it up and gets promoted back to the epl and proves themselves i think they could be an obvious choice for manager, unless maybe there is some tension between them and the owner/management
Thoughts?

I think both of them will go on to become good managers, but I think Levy will go for an experienced manager when Harry finally goes.

He's gone the ex-player route before and that didn't work out great.

Gus Poyet can fuck off, I don't care how good a manager he becomes, his backing of Suarez and his ignorance on talkshite was disgusting.

I wouldn't mind Chris coming back but his treatment by some sections of the support was horrid. I think people would turn against him quickly if results don't go their way.

I think it's dangerous to go down the route of hiring former players, particularly if the reasoning is largely sentimental.

We were obviously burnt by this ourselves with Hoddle, although to be fair that was as much a footballing decision as a sentimental one because he'd been a pretty good manager up to that point.

But you only have to look at Liverpool now, and Newcastle in the time of Keegan/Shearer to see that it doesn't always work out well, and when it doesn't you often holding out for longer than you should (as I think we did with Ardiles) because of that sentimental link. For example at Liverpool I don't understand why they aren't sharpening the knives for 'King Kenny' as he has done a very poor job there, and we all know Keegan's weaknesses but the Geordies refused to see them.

Besides if we want to get a former player involved at some level, it should be Klinsmann.

I can't stand Poyet. He is as ignorant as Suarez. Totally ignoring that Suarez had played in holland for a while previously.

I disagree, if either managers get hired it won't be because its a sentimental decision, it will be because they have proven themselves to be capable managers, Hughton was sacked by newcastle because of the Best signing but last and this season he has scored some vital goals

O/T abit Hoddle iirc said that his main issue at the club was Pleat as DoF and he wouldn't sign off on the players he wanted

Not interested in Poyet since the Suarez thing. Don't want a manager I don't respect.

Hughton did a great job at Newscastle and Birmingham are finding their form at the right time. He's one to watch but if HR left at the end of the season I wouldn't want him considered.

no ex spurs players should be manager of our club. best manager we have had since bill nick has been harry and he had nothing to do with spurs...

a;; this ex player nonsense to come back to club is just another big fat pay day for them. none of them are good enough anyway.. we need outsiders with no attachment coming in and preferably more senior types who have been there and know how it works. exceptions for me wud be pep, moyes and possibly mourinho but never been fan of the special one in way he sets up teams.

wud love pep or moyes as our new managers. both top coaches and moyes gets everything out of players and makes them work extremely hard which is one major gripe i have with many a spurs team..i love seen a honesty of effort on the pitch. harry is getting that but it still can be better.

I don't care what Poyet said about Suarez but his pitch side antics in the first match of this season were embarassing .

Would have Chrissie back in some capacity though .

A top 4 club needs a top 4 manager.
End of discussion

But how do you define a top four manager?

Ferguson, Wenger and Redknapp weren't managing big clubs and at the top of domestic football before getting their big moves.

Mourinho and Ancelotti came to the Prem with a big reputation and were successful. But for every one of them there is a Ramos or a Scholari.

Ferguson had achieved quite a lot before joining Utd. A hell of a lot more than Wenger and Redknapp.

Yes but some nowadays would look at his CV and say he's not a top four manager which is the point I was replying to.

That's a shame everyone's turned against Poyet. I like him, I think that apart from the Suarez thing he comes across really well as a person.

Hughton's been a great servant for the club down the years and I like his honesty and straight-forwardness, but he is never going to be more than an average manager.

Well what he said was kind of a big deal, he only has himself to blame for that really. I suspect if you take racism out of most racist people they would probably be more than half decent.
