Man Utd are probably considered the most stable club in the world, yet a few seasons back had to look for a new assistant manager when Queiroz left.
?????!!!!! Queiroz hasnt left, and Man utd have had stability for 3-4 seasons now, well since Gill took over the coaching staff hasnt changed. Before Gill took over Mclaren left to 'cause he wanted to manage, that is what normally happens but it was very stable before and DURING that. Unlike us, and Newcastle which sack are Manager every 1.5 years. And constantly change the whole set up

Queiroz left to be Real Madrid manager for about a season, then went back to Man Utd...

Just broadening this out a little, three of the current cartel occupying the top four places have not only been highly successful clubs historically (or at least since WWII), during the Champions League/EPL era they have been the most stable. We, along with Everton, Villa and Newcastle, who have enjoyed similar historical success (OK, in Newcastle's case it last happened when I was still in short trousers, but nobody would dispute that they are a big club, surely) have suffered through lack of stability and continuity.

Yup. Total misunderstanding of the point Chris was trying to make (and made with perfect clarity for just about everyone else, it seems). Newcastle also have a new owner—it was the repulsive Shepherd who was responsible for the constant chopping and changing, and the abysmal choice of managers; if they've got any sense, Ashley and Mort won't make the same mistakes.

As a team, Keegan and Chrissy could be a good match; Keegan does the airy-fairy inspirational stuff, Chrissy the nuts and bolts. And no, I don't think it's a huge coincidence that their results picked up once he joined.

Chrissy was one of the best LBs Spurs have ever had (the only better were Cyril Knowles and, maybe, Ron Henry), and served the club well and faithfully as a coach for yonks. Calling him a muppet is an utter disgrace.

Wot he said, over and over!

I'd dispute it - go back to when they were relegated and they were getting 2000 fans turning up at st james park. Yeh, they got a big (lopsided) stadium but they're not as big as they believe.

Although they've had more Champions League football than anyone outside the 4...

I did say, historically, and, yes, they nearly did go down the tubes, the same way Wolves, Wednesday and Forest have. That doesn't alter the fact that they were one-time big hitters. Historically, a tiny number of clubs have dominated English football. Even the likes of Huddersfield can say, 'We coulda been contenders.'

See now WHO's not reading properly!!!!

He defintiley says that he wants stability, see the direct quote below:

"I left unstable Spurs, so I want stability at Newcastle"

For gods sake it is the damn title of the article on Sunderland Echo!!!! :bang:

A title which, in my opinion, you are misunderstanding. There is a big difference between saying, "I've been at an unstable club & I want things to be different here so we need to make sure that, as a club, we are more stable" (which in my opinion was what he meant), & saying, "I wanted stability & Newcastle's clearly where its at so that's why I joined", which would just be plain daft.

Basically, he most probably went to Newcastle because he thought it would be a good challenge, he would get to use his tactical nous in conjunction with Keegan's motivational skillls & it was better than any other offer he had going at the time. However, once he was there he presumably thought a bit of continuity wouldn't go amiss, especially having experienced the upheaval at Spurs & knowing that Newcastle have a similarly chequered past.

So...Not a muppet, just someone embarking on a challenge but making clear that the main change needed at Newcastle is 'less changes.'

Seriously when did i ever say the he went to Newcastle thinking that they had stability?????

My point is that he wants stability but is at a club like Newcastle, which (and i repeat this for like the 5th time now), is like going to a club like Derby and wanting to win the CL.

i.e. - there is as much chance of stability at Newcastle (IMO) as there is chance of Derby winning the CL - both events very highly unlikely IMO.

I understand he wants a challenge, and i can't think of a more challenging club in the prem to join than Newcastle, but for me the fact he wants stability at Newcastle makes him at best seem like he expects completley unreal things to happen there.

If he had joined Fulham and said "i want to work with the best players in Europe" then for me this is the same type of statement, i.e. Chris you've joined the wrong club for that!

Brasil spur, this all boils down to Houghton being referred to as a Muppet in your post, nothing else really!

I know that Houdini, which is why i'm not arguing with people for saying that i shouldn't call him a muppet and should show support etc.....

My opinion is that he is, but that's my opinion and i know that will be controversial with others.

It is amusing how people seem to take these things so personally and feel the need to throw insults at me, if i didn't know better i'd honestly swear that half this site's members are the love-children of old Chrissy boy.

Why is this thread still going on? Just neg rep Brasil for being a douchebag and move on.

Good point General Levy, everyone seems to think this is a crap thread but yet it's being running for a week now, also it doesn't help to try and end the thread by posting more ......

As for the neg rep, cheers for the recommendation, i'll be happy to reply in kind to you as well.

As we are all agreed that Chris Hughton and Scott Houghton are both Spurs Legends in their own right and as this is just an endless circle of abuse I think we all got our say.
