maybe avb's plan is to play lamela on the right of soldado, eriksen on the left (willian obviously was first choice), but obviously cutting in centrally more, and hopefully if we can tie up coentrao, have coentrao use his pace and attacking ability to bomb up and down the left hand side and give us width on the left that way? does anyone think that could work? coentrao is probably the best possible LB for that role. also with our CM 3 any one of them could cover aswell.

I like Luke Shaw at Southamption, going to be a one for the future I think and the kind of signing Levy loves, dont know his price or if he is gettable though. Been looking at some games of Eriksen looks a fine player.

Eriksen would play centrally, where we need him and where Willian would be originally intended to play.

My understanding is that Spurs are ready to bid for Christian Eriksen. Year on contract. Ajax want £10m. He is the Bale/Willian alternative

Great news. Him, Lamela and Chiriches and i'd be delighted.

If we closed out the window with Eriksen, Lamela, Chiriches and Coentrao bought out of the Bale cash, I'd be happy enough.
Bale is an exceptional talent, but he does want to go, so no point worrying about it. If we can strengthen our squad on the whole as a result if him going, so be it.
Lamela would be the closest to a Bale replacement positionally. Maybe not at Bale's level yet, but younger and has potential. The key factor is, having players like Soldado, Paulinho and Eriksen etc, in place of Defoe, Parker and Dempsey means there is less pressure on the Bale replacement to deliver as much. Working as a unit, not ten players supplying one man.
I was torn originally, over someone more flexible than Eriksen, capable of playing wider aswell as centrally, but the reality is, he is a player of immense quality already, only 21, and room to get better. Contract running down means he will be available for a decent price, and I feel would be keen to join us.
Throw in an upgrade on Defoe/Ade with sales abd the balance of the money assigned to William against Eriksen's lesser fee, we are good to go.
Let Baldini crack on then in the closed window, looking for young cheap prospects for our academy/development sides, to get a constant production line of in house talent coming through. We will have a younger but infinitely more talented first team squad than last year, and looking at the abilities/ages of what we have, there should be less need for big summer changes for a while, just a bit of tinkering, similar to the Barca model, one marquee signing per summer, and a couple of promotions from within.

Maybe we will go back in for a younger striker like Rodrigo with the difference in cash left from the Willian deal. I still think we could use a #9 for the future and Rodrigo would provide that but also give us another left-footed option out wide.

Would be a great option if one of our strikers left us. Would be an ideal Defoe replacement. Do you know the sort of figure they'd want for him?

It'd probably be somewhere around 15m I'd believe. He's got a bright future and Benfica know that. Still, I'd rather spend what we would consider available money for a striker like Damiao on Rodrigo given his versatility and potential. I'd prefer Rodrigo over Vadillo out wide as well.

Willian would have predominantly played from the left in a 433.

My take is AVB will employ both 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3, to suit the opponent, whether home or away, and whether we're trying to batter a team down or close a game out.

Eriksen is superb centrally for 4-2-3-1. I don't know how good he would be left in a 4-3-3 - but he could play one of the central 3.

Chadli, Sigg, or possibly Townsend could play left.

I simply haven't seen enough of him to say for sure. I've seen him play a dozen or so times over the last fe yrs and he's never really stood out to me. Then again, many players have that label unfairly. Carrick was woefully underappreciated, albeit he's not exactly a creative playmaker type but you know what I mean. So yeah, I'd be rather underwhelmed by the signing but would happily trust the judgement of Baldini, Andre et al.

With Holtby already here a pursuit of Eriksen means it's deffo bye bye Gylfi.

Hope so. He is bloody terrible.

Please let us not go down the Damiao route again! I'm not sure he's all that good anyway. Balding and AvB surely have other names in their little black books.

If Eriksen joins I'd imagine the 4-3-3 would end up being a 4-2-1-3 like the Brazil NT deployed at the Confederations Cup. It's not the same as a 4-2-3-1 as the wide men are still acting as forwards like Neymar and Hulk did. Eriksen would be doing the Oscar role.

In my opinion we have dodged a bullet with Willian. Eriksen wants the move. Young, bags of potential and CHEAPER
He is certainly more in keeping with our history of signings before this window. Something about us spending £26m, £30m and potentially £35m all in one window didn't seem right. Hell if we do end up spending £35m on Lamela after £26m on Sodlado that in itself is crazy for us.

As much as it's great to see us spend big money on stars I love when we pick up a bargain ala Van Der Vaart. This Eriksen deal has Daniel Levy written all over it.
