This would be disappointing

Christian Eriksen is giving serious thought to staying at Brentford next season, despite the interest of his former club Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City.

Brentford, who are on course to play in the Premier League again next season, are desperate to keep Eriksen at the end of his six-month deal that expires in the summer.

Although he is not expected to make a decision on his future until the summer, sources claim Eriksen has already looked at the affluent west London district of Chiswick, which is just a short journey to Brentford’s Community Stadium, as he begins to weigh up his options.

Eriksen has been superb for Brentford since returning to football after suffering a cardiac arrest during last summer’s European Championships.

Of the eight Premier League games Eriksen has played for the club, Brentford have only lost two and the Dane was among the scorers in the stunning 4-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last month.

Eriksen has also won his place back in the Denmark squad and has targeted playing in the World Cup in Qatar this winter, which will influence his decision on where he plays his club football next season.

Staying at Brentford under Thomas Frank would guarantee Eriksen a regular starting place in the Premier League next year, whereas moving back to Spurs or joining Leicester, who are thought to be among the interested clubs, would represent more of a risk.

On the World Cup, Eriksen said: “My goal is to play in the World Cup in Qatar. I want to play. That’s been my mindset all along.

“It’s a goal, a dream. Whether I’ll be picked is another thing. But it’s my dream to come back. I’m sure I can because I don’t feel any different. Physically, I’m back in top shape.”

Brentford entertain Southampton on Saturday, having already reached 40 points for their first season in the Premier League which should be enough to have secured their safety from relegation.

He can buy a huge gaff in Richmond and have a piss easy commute over Kew Bridge. I’d stay at Brentford if I were him. Strikes me as a loyal type.

They gave him a chance when no one else did. I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed there.

I don't think we have a right to be "disappointed" at him wanting to stay somewhere he's appreciated and enjoys playing.

And it would be perfectly reasonable to feel he owes them something for taking a chance on him when others just thought "let's let him test out somewhere else the we'll swoop for him later"

If Conte wants him back i guess they are able to communicate this to Christian, that hes wanted and thought of as a starter.
Would love to see him join us again. He is the type of player we are missing.

Don't see what's disappointing about a guy considering staying with the club that provided him a route back into PL football.

Personally speaking, as much as I'd be extremely happy if he returned to us. I'd be proud that he's appreciative of the opportunity they provided him with.

He's clearly just a good person!

Based on nothing but my own supposition I just have never seen him coming back to us. I didn’t have any problems with the way he left but he was here such a long time he just wanted a change of scenery and to move forward and experience something new and fresh. Always just felt that looking back the way to something he has already done won’t be in his mindset. If Brentford is working for him and he’s happy, he should honestly probably just stay there where he will remain a cut above in class and a player they are lucky to have

If I was him I’d consider staying at Brentford too tbh.

Reckon he’d get plenty of games for us mind, as good to rotate players when have a midweek game / plus option to come off bench.

If he does then fair play to him if he's happy but I'd still love to see him back with us.

Yeah, I wouldn’t blame him if he wanted to stay there. He seems to be enjoying it.

I think playing time will be key too. At Brentford they'll play him as much as he can handle. Pretty much guaranteed 1st name on team sheet. With us he's playing against teams employing a low block, and odd cameo off the bench. And conte level of beating in training.
I'd love him back, and hold nothing against him chosing to stay at Brentford.
Particularly if his corners and free kicks hit the first man when we play them!

Disappointing from a purely selfish Spurs transfer/team building point of view. But like you say definitely understandable and admirable!

I think he's just a clever person.

He's moved on from the situation he was at with us, where he wants new/titles. He seems to just want to continue playing, and go to the world cup. Why move to another team where he's not in any way guaranteed to get games? It's not like he needs the money.

Brentford will give him everything he's apparently looking for. London club, PL starter, decent enough to win games, but not so decent that he'd be benched. Can stick out like a sore thumb as a good player, rather than blend in.

We can't have it both ways, we want our players to show loyalty, but hope others don't when it suits us?!
I for one would applaud Eriksen sticking with Brentford, would show some class.

Really wouldn't surprise me at all and couldn't blame him one bit.

Eriksen would be a brilliant signing for us, but it's no coincidence he's already got more assists for a mid-table Brentford than he did in his entire time in Serie A at title-winning Inter under Conte.

Conte is all about well-rehearsed passing patterns and a rigid system of play, whereas so much of Eriksen's brilliance is his ability to improvise passes on the fly.

While I'm sure he'd be a success if he came back to Spurs and would have a better chance of winning stuff (I hope), he wouldn't be guaranteed to start every game, would have to train like a bastard and I suspect wouldn't enjoy his football quite as much.

At Brentford he's the heartbeat of the entire team and their undoubted talisman. He basically floats around the pitch pinging passes and doing whatever the fuck he likes. Must feel good.

(Bloody hope he comes home, though)

Remember the Amazon doc when he was on the way out? Can’t see him wanting to come back here. For the way levy is, not footballing reasons. Been a while since I’ve seen it but wasn’t he banging on about being a commodity ?

Levy winked, rattled his gold chains and told him about his A Level results.
