Brentford fans are really losing it now..most seem to be resigned to the fact He’s coming back. Personally I can’t see it, not sure it’s a move conte will be willing to make
Why wouldn't Conte want one of the best mf players in the league for nothing?

If he does sign for Brentford, you'd presume that's his lot for the next few years, and perhaps the remainder of his career. He would be their talisman and ticket to staying in the league - zero chance they would ever let him go.

Maybe he's be happy with that, and after what he's been through, I certainly wouldn't blame him.

I suppose it depends how hungry he is to play for a 'big team' or if he'd be content to cruise through these next few years as an absolute legend at the Bees.

Quotes from Conte a few months ago:

“For sure, Eriksen is part of Tottenham’s story. To come back here would be a good opportunity for him, for me, for the club. Now he’s signed for Brentford … only six months, and we’ll see what happens.

I wish him all the best for the future. And you don’t know what will happen. It would be good for me to have him again, to work together.”

If it’s true he wants to remain in London I expect us to sign him. I think it’s likely he would want to play at a CL level team rather than middling/relegation candidate and his recent comments imply that. A lot of the chat in this thread has been about how Eriksen may feel he owes Brentford, but he has played a huge role in keeping them up, with his performances and presence lifting the whole club. Can we say Brentford were his only option, the only team willing to sign him? Not sure about that personally.

He’ll surely feel some affection to Brentford but I doubt that outweighs his affection for Spurs and his former teammates here. He’ll also know we are on to something with Conte and might just have that nagging feeling of unfinished business with us.

I know this is a bit taboo and it feels like a jinx to say it, but there's a part of me that doesn't want Eriksen back, and wants him never playing professional football again.

I know that doctors have said he's not at risk but this time last year I was in hysterics watching him at the Euros. I genuinely don't think I, or anyone at the club, could take something like that happening again in a Spurs shirt.

Obviously we will proceed with positivity but in the back of my head it'll be a worry whenever I see him don a shirt from now on.

He’s safer now than he was before the CA. Probably the safest player in football when it comes to heart issues.

I understand where you are coming from but if he came back from the dead and this is what he wants to do then he's probably got the best perspective on it...carpe diem and all that. It is a blessing that he is playing football. If we get to see him do it in a Spurs shirt again we are all the more blessed.

Not knocking your comment I get that it is coming from a place of concern.

Based on our game against Brentford and the way Christian handled the media and our fans after the game I’d say he’s 95% on his way back

And regarding his health issue, he wouldn’t be allowed to play in the PL if it was even a minor concern.

I posted months back that with the way things have gone for him in the last year, his outlook must have been affected and I think it's perfectly possible that he may be coming into the best years of his career.
At that time I didn't think coming back to us was even a possibility.

If he is willing to come back it’s a no-brainer.
We need to inject more creativity and vision into midfield. He’s proven that he is still quality.

Yep, for set pieces alone he's worth signing, we'll be a proper threat again from FKs and Corners.
We're no worse on corners or free kicks now than we were when he was here. Didn't he not score direct from a FK in his last 2-3 years with us?

I get where you’re coming from but a) Medical opinion is clearly that he is safe and b). Who are we to tell him he can’t play the game he has dedicated himself to? I’d love to see him back - he’s a great player, a top professional and exactly what our squad needs

We had the best conversion rate in the PL from corners in two consecutive seasons under Poch, with Eriksen as our primary corner taker. SC was too busy moaning about the ones that didn't beat the first man to notice that teams who lumped it high into the middle / far post created more half-chances but fewer clear chances and fewer goals than us.

Eriksen hit the woodwork and forced finger-tip saves quite a few times during his drought from scoring direct free-kicks. He scored 8 goals in 6 years from direct free-kicks (6 in his first 4 years, then had a 2+ year drought, followed by 2 in 2019). By comparison, Kane scored his first ever direct free-kick in the PL (thanks to a deflection), in 2014, and has failed to score from any of the 53 he's taken in the subsequent 8 years. Kane seems to hit the wall more often than the target.

Son on corners and indirect free kicks is no worse than Eriksen was IMO. For the record I think they're both very good at them. Son puts a great ball in from set pieces routinely.

Obviously Kane's direct free kicks are terrible so anything is an improvement there.

So it's purely coincidental that our conversion rate from corners was the best in the league with Eriksen taking them, but is very mediocre since he left?

Wow. Would honestly not have thought that. Do you know how that stacks up against Son this season and Christian at Brentford?

Not questioning your info, but I always thought he was bad and we were bad at corners and I remember many of us asking for someone else to take them similar to how we get frustrated when Kane takes a free kick today. Do you have the data that shows this, especially in his final two years (or can you point me to where to find it)? I am surprised when I watch Brentford games, how much better I perceive his free kicks and corners now than I did in his final couple of years at Spurs, but those were not his best years and he really struggled overall along with most on the team. He looks back to his old self now.

they do seem confident of keeping him - alternatively demonstrating how much they value him and how much they want him
