Of course we would like a better calibre of player, as would every club! But the amount of shit he gets is astonishing, he has proved to be very good value for money, very versatile as a squad player.

If a few other players in the squad had an ounce of his drive and determination we would be a very different prospect. I am happy with him this season. Without some of his vital goals this year we would have been screwed, oh and a massive lol to those saying yesterday's goal was a simple open goal?! He had a split second to make the decision and to shoot. Not as easy as it looked, give credit where it is due

Clint Dempsey is good at ... looking like he's out of it on space cakes when the sky cameras pick him up off the ball.

Bloody Clint!
Bloody Gylfy!
Bloody Lewis!

We all say it! Be honest!

Remember - Its their first full season, I would not want to get rid too quickly
Yes they are not as good as Chelsea's or City's midfield's but we could not afford theirs
People look at the league table we are up there challenging, Clint is part of that.

Clint et al, should stay 'at least' one more season....

He's been a wierd signing for us. He doesn't look like he's doing anything and then will just pop up back post and pop one in.

Guess you can't complain about that (y)

You sure about the no complaining bit

The stick Dempsey gets reminds me so much of Crouch. Scores a bunch of very important goals but the haters just hate anyway.

Don't get me wrong, he is a limited footballer, but he really deserves a break from the hate.

The difference between Dempsey and Crouch is that Crouch may have scored important goals but they were only important because he didn't score enough in the first place. When Dempsey doesn't score you can usually say that he was doing the right thing perhaps and didn't get the right opportunity.

Let's not forget that Crouch is a striker too, it's his job to score goals. Dempsey is a midfielder and he has other duties that prevent him doing things that may help him score more.

This is the stuff Defoe fans will have you believe he does, but he demonstrably does not.

Lol! I've never really heard anyone say that but that would be a ludicrous thing to suggest. Defoe has his strengths, he's a powerful player, he can create a bit of space and unleash a belter but he has never been a "smart" player. Sometimes you need one, and sometimes another. Sadly for Defoe he only really seems motivated when things are going badly on the pitch and he gets to be the hero. He is to a starting position what Adebayor is to new contracts.

Next season I'd be happy if we got two new strikers in. If we played 442 he could be pushed forward if one of them got injured. If AVB wants to play 433 (or 4231) then we'd need a new striker and a second striker who's happy to start on the bench, in the league at least.

First season yes, but Clint is 30 years old. I'm not saying slack shouldn't be cut - I've actually stood up for his contribution, but he's not 'developing' he's just settling in. At 22/23 Holtby and Gylfi are doing both.

Gylfi is and will be the best of the 3 going forward in my opinion.

Loved his reaction to both goals yesterday, especially the second one in front of our fans. You could forgive him for a muted celebration after the stick he gets, but yesterdays celebrations showed just how much he wants to win us over. Great to see. Keep it up Clint!

Is that the difference between Spurs and last years Fulham ?

Dempsey has produced the goods and we'd be in the brown stuff without him .

He's a goal scorer alright .

I think it's down to the fact that at Fulham he was their main man and was always the focal point of their attacks. Fulham players would seek him out. At Spurs, he's not the main man and our players aren't focussing on him like Fulham did. We have better players than Fulham who can do the job that Dempsey did for them. For that reason I think he's done well this season and think it's incredibly harsh by some "fans" to criticise him. His goals have been vital, there's no doubt about that.

Interesting how Adebayor tried his best to ignore Dempsey for the set-up against Stoke... kept on celebrating with Clint waiting for a thanks, then right at the end when he pointed at Ade as if to say "hey, where's my thanks?", Adebayor kinda looked at him then carried on celebrating with everyone else!

Because like anybody who knows anything about football, Adebayor knows he is the worst player in our team by an absolute mile.

I can not believe what I am reading. I come to this thread every now and then to cheer myself up knowing that it isn't just me disgusted to see him play for Spurs. I will have whatever you lot are smoking from now on?

So you are saying that teams don't celebrate with their worst players? Interesteing theory. Really good for team spirit that.

Dempsey, Sigg and Holtby are amongst the finest non-first team regular starters in the league IMO.

I can't think of many teams who have players in their squad of that calibre who aren't first names on their team sheets each week.

Scoring really important goals when you do not expect him to.

he seems to be H8ed for not being VDV,.... FFS, he's knocked in some very crucial goals and he still gets slated,...

I wonder if he would take as much stick from our faithful if he were from Edmonton?... Then it would be all "local lad done well for himself"

C'mon, he's a fighter with limited technique, but gets it done in the end... and clearly it all has meaning for him -- look at his reaction with the fans in the stand
