Writing off a manager/team after 9 games...... Do we ever learn.....

AVB is trying to change the way Chelsea play aswell as introduce more young blood into a ageing Chelsea team, that will not happen over night.

Well quite. Juanque's first nine games were reasonably encouraging. The next 26, however…

no because he won a portguese liga and uefa cup before arriving.

ramos won what a uefa cup and had managed the likes of barca b, betis(relegated) and valladolid.

avb has an ageing squad(lampard, drogba, terry, cech) that is the spine of his team this is why he is struggling

Have you blocked the 3-0 Super Cup drubbing of Barcelona from your memory?

2 consecutive UEFA cups
1 Super Cup
1 Copa de Ray
1 Spanish Super Cup (beat Real)

From memory, Porto have won the Portuguese league about 18 times in the last 25 years, so this isn't exactly a mind-blowing achievement.

I had assumed that Abramovich had given up on his rash sacking of managers, and instead gone for something a bit more long-term

That's why he appointed a 33 yr old up and coming manager

I would have thought he'd give him 3 or 4 seasons at least

We'll wait and see I guess

Very true that but how many times did they win it going undefeated the whole season aswell as winning the Europa League and Portugese cup into the bargain...?

So why do it?

You'll have to ask him that!

As a manager though, from what I've read about him and heard him say, he has a very clear idea of how he wants the game to be played and sometimes I think you can be so single minded that you will do everything to instil your methodology on a squad that isn't perhaps best suited to it.

It is clear AVB wants to change Chelsea into a more dynamic, energetic outfit - and I predict that should he be given enough time we will see Lampard and Terry be phased out (suddenly cutting them out wouldn't go down well with the natives I suspect, and a good manager keeps the fans on his side as well). Players like Ramires, Meireles, Mikel, Bosingwa, Cole are ripe for the style of play he wants to see, but these things do take time, and I suspect Abramovich may just have this in mind to see AVB through, give him his players (hopefully not Luka who I think AVB wanted to be his Xavi style playmaker) and not chop him if they don't conquer all this season.

I think he is a knob and I am not convinced that he has the belief of the players.

AVB needs time... I think as long as he stays in the CL (i.e. top 4) and gets close in the cups, maybe win 1, then he will stay. I don't think Abram. wants to to chop and change and probably recognises that Man City are likely to rule the roost for a couple of seasons and might be taking the opportunity to rebuild.

Having said that, if Chelsea somehow dropped out of the top 4 I could see him being sacked straight away... but then look what happened with Ancelotti, so who knows!!

I think he is a good manager yet to prove himself on the biggest stages and I think Chelsea might be a burden too big... on the other hand he could be the next Alex F.

Ricky van Wolfswinkel, scored another goal today and has a big chance of winning back to back player of the month in Portugal.

Dutch forwards are in pretty good form, aside from VDV and RVP in the prem there's also KJH who has 21 goals in 18 games for Schalke this season.

 at how you manage to slip in some more dutch player love-in into a thread about a Portuguese Manager of Chelsea.

Cech is 29, hardly old for a goalkeeper...

While you are correct that 29 isn't old for a keeper I think the decline in Cech's game has been clear for all to see since he was kicked in the head.
