He actually played RB quite a bit in his first season...

Really good point. Just goes to show how all over the place you can be early on in your career until you find a settled position to call your own.

With Diers ability to play DM, CB and RB if need be makes him such an important player for us. It's a shame he can't be classed as homegrown even though he was born in Cheltenham :(

I certainly like the idea of it. I'm not going to claim to be an expert on him like I am with Grealish (@tiger666 rolls his eyes), but he seems to check all the boxes in what we're looking for. I will say I'm a sucker for a Spanish CM... Getting a Brazilian winger was pretty fun as well.

What's your view on Grealish then? After watching him a fair bit towards the end of the season I think he's got a great set of attack minded tools that deserves the chance to get trained with Pochettino.

On a side note, a window that sees Grealish, Ceballos and a WF come in would be a really relieving end this helter skelter of a window

Window closure is definitely a disadvantage for English clubs. This would be another example as Madrid may not decide what's what for another few weeks in terms of their CMs, I could easily see either Ceballos or Kovacic leaving to go to Serie A at end of August.

I can live with Grealish as a Sissoko replacement, but I wasn't interested in him if he was going to take away from our ability to purchase a better CM, be expected to play an important role right away and that we should be shopping for higher targets than Championship players.

The flip side is European teams know that the best money for their players will come from England. Once the England window closes, the prices for players drops. That is good for teams that want to buy, and bad for teams that want to sell.

A month and a half later, based on Trix's deja vu, I think this might be "play it again, sam"

Yes the premier league tax, not sure that helps us much though.
With them having new manager and players still on holiday I doubt he's made any decisions. Maybe Modric will go or maybe he'll block that and choose to move one or other two on. Either or I can't see him having made a decision for weeks on that.

We reckon he's a Grealish alternative? Surely too similar position wise..unless he's played deep and I'm totally wrong

The other challenge we face right now - we can only register 17 non-HG players - so once that deadline passes, we will have shown our hand, and teams will know we have to sell at a discount.

That is why its hard to see us signing any non-HG players until we can move 1-3 out.

Personally I can't see us signing anyone until one or two go whether HG or not. We won't want to be stuck paying for a player who isn't going to play a single minute.

If we can't find a buyer we'll have to bite bullet and just loan them out, we can't be turning down potentially better players just because we can't find a bidder for a non HG pointless member of squad.

We're going to have to risk it or we're not going to be able to sign anyone.
