Neither will Austin. In fact, no second choice player will.

On sheer reason you're probably right, but then again I think our lack of a genuine threat off the bench is a major contributing factor to the gap between us and the top four. When the game gets tight at the end, we've relied on a bit of luck from Kane or Eriksen, who started and were consequently playing on tired legs, to get the job done. Arse and Man U have game-winners in a variety of positions off the bench who can flip a game 180 degrees and even get the winning goals.

Maybe you're right, but having Austin instead of Ings would not lead to us taking the almighty step to the Top 4.

Yep, I'm old school, love an old fashion centre forward like Austin but it doesn't seem to be part of the gaffers "philosophy". Not my call obviously but looking at what is available and the way things look like going forward who would you suggest instead?
Honestly, I'm not sure, I'll give it some

austin is better! No Kane to start season is rather Charlie than ings up top

IF we sign Ings, would we not be in the same position as with Kane at the start of the season? Hasn't Poch already said that with the u21 finals Kane will not be fit for the start of the season after he has a much needed rest after the finals. Would Ings be any different?

If not, then we would still be in a position at the start of the season where we do not have a match striker that the gaffer trusts to play!

If Ings indeed a Spurs player at the start of the Transfer Window and both he and Kane will be on National Duty, i feel we will see Chadli playing as a number 9 at the start of the season. Just a hunch.

Couldn't we just try and sign both? JJ did say striker(s).

I love the idea of having alternatives to Kane and the option to move to two upfront if chasing a game.

Ings and Chadli can play wide or support the number 9 when playing two up front and Austin can play as a number 9, while Chadli learns to. Coming off the bench for balls into the box, I'd rather have Austin than Soldado or Adebayor any day of any week in any season!

How about Austin coming off the bench rather than Soldado or Adebayor?
He's not an impact sort of player.

You still haven't said why.

JJ ruled out Austin and neither of them would come here to be third choice.

Despite what he says BR has very little say over signings. As part of his new contract discussions after we nearly won the league and he was in a position of strength he convinced the 'President' Mike Gordon to let him sign Lambert, Lallana & Lovren against the wishes of the other committee members. Obviously Lambert and Lovren have been an unmitigated disaster, Lallana less so as he has had a lot of disruptive injuries and most think he'll come good after a good pre-season.

Needless to say IF BR keeps his job he wont have overall say anymore on transfers and the other committee members will resume more control. The Committee bought Can, Markovic, Moreno, Balotelli, Origi (BR as agreed with this one though) and Manquillo. So I feel BR gets a lot of undeserved stick for our poor buys as it isn't like with Rafa where he had full control.

Cheers for the response, Toela, old bean (y) .. From a Tottenham perspective, it's wonderful to read that it's not just 'The Brodge' who is shit at identifying targets, but those who don't want him to identify them are equally as inept :ROFLMAO:

That's a shame. We need another 'no 9' IMO. But maybe Chadli will fill that void. The point being that an 'impact' player can just be a forward who's decent in the air, so we can lump the ball into the box for the last 10 minutes of games when we have to.

Chadli is not a no9! He's a good not great wide attacker. Within levys tight budget I've no idea who we should get tbh I just know ings will give us very little and certainly isn't that extra something to get us 4th

There's another facet of the apparant £12m bid for Spurs that hasn't been discussed yet that I've seen.

Unless Liverpool make a bid that Burnley accept, then Spurs get the ability to talk to Ings/his agent until 30 June - Liverpool, cannot sign him before 30 June . And during June Danny Ings will spen much of June with E u21's who include Harry Kane, Tom Carroll, Alex Pritchard and Eric Dier...but no Liverpool players.

Maybe a 'drip, drip, drip' into Ings ear over the next 5 or 6 weeks will change Ings ideas.

Let's hope not. Average mid table striker. We should be putting our efforts into bolasie for the wing and getting rid of gump aka Townsend.

Bolasie on the wing is no answer as a striker who can play whenh Kane cannot.

Calling Ings an 'average mid table striker' and then asking for Bolasie, who plays for mid-table Palace, is hilarious.

It really is though.

Never seen such an uncoordinated player in my life. Really am genuinely impressed he's made it to this level. Good for him. However, he is not what Spurs need.
