And so he has if reports are to be believed.

He has looked better, got plaudits from Ince and Nelsen, and appears to have won a majority of Blackeye fans round.

Nevertheless, he's made only 33 saves this season compared to Gomes' 53—for the same number of goals conceded.

So you haven't seen much of Green this season?

Given was phenomenal yesterday. I was particularly impressed by the way he stood and watched the Wiggies' opener sail into the goal. Yes please!

Boruc has had his share of horror moments for Celtic.

Hennessey? Pass.

Schwarzer may have looked good for Fulham, but he was very so-so for Boro.
Green is a good keeper and as I said at the time would be preferable to the exotic and untried keepers that Champ Man fans always recommend.

I went to see another Brazillian keeper on Saturday and he made a brilliant save and held on to a thumping 25 yarder against Forest. One save does not make Bristol City's Basso a top keeper, although he is not bad.

We need to defend as a team. If teams have identified a weakness for crosses in crowded areas, make sure there is a white head on it, send everthing back out of the area with interest. We have 2 leaders in the back 4, a CB playing at RB and big THudd. We must also take the pressure of Gomes by creating a midfield barrier 30yards from goal.

I still like Gomes and hope he's given the chance to come good.

The 2 things i hope come out of this are:

1. If teams constantly work on this weakness, he'll eventually turn it into a strength, much like in tennis when you keep on playing a shot to someone's backhand, their backhand becomes stronger and stronger.

2. The refs will have heard what Murphy has said and Spurs can try and claim foul play against Gomes at set pieces.

Ok, i'm clutching at straws at both points there, but he hasn't turned into a bad goalie and he was world class second half. The mistake isn't the sign of a bad goalie, it's a sign of massively low confidence. I don't know if he'll overcome it or not, but i really hope he does. I hope the fans give him a chance too.

Blackburn at the Lane next week - return of the Robbo. He'll get a fantastic reception from the PL and hopefully Gomes will take that the right way. Can't wait to see Robbo back.

If he can adjust over the season to the crosses we could have a world class keeper on our hands. The second half was great.

Needs a season.

The next week should prove crucial in training being as all our back five will be on the training park, along with Gomes' coach who needs to get in to his head.

All I'm concerned about in honesty is getting to the window without any further contributions which stops the team in its tracks.

In January we should have a good idea of where to focus for strengthening.

Where are all Gomes' defenders? I guess they must be drinking a whole bucket of reality when a player says a team (and an average one at that) can see his weakness. So I guess it wasn't just "fickle" Spurs supporters afterall, who saw this guy as a wreck.

Indeed.

Where is that little repulsive brasil spur dude? I notice he deleted his thread with the poll about whether Gomes is an improvement on Robbo as gradually he was being shown up.

Actually kendall I sent it to the Cemetary as it was going around in circles from both camps, match by match.

Although in hindsight one thread on Gomes may have been better and tidier than all these other escuses for a pop at him.

Note - I'm in the Replace Gomes camp. Have been since I watched him pre-season.

Who knows maybe they know it's no use in discussing with an ignorant redneck-mob...

Gomes charges out, commands his area, violently if necessary, but shows signs of being a very dominating keeper despite his occasional hiccup. He get's barracked for being so "clumsy", starts sticking to his line more (as was really obvious against 'pool), doesn't come out for the ball and, when he does, it's after half a seconds thinking time and too late, leaving him stranded.

It's kinda funny though - if we had had the defence to cope, the static, play on the line keeper would've suited Robbo way more, considering his shot stopping and reflexes, but now we have a keeper who wants to command his 6 yard box, we tether him to the line.

We have to decide - do we want a static keeper who lets his defenders do all the work and is there to just defend that goal mouth or do we want a cohesive unit of defenders and keeper, working together to cover the entire area and run the risk that defenders always have run of getting clobbered by a keeper coming to claim

Gomes ability to catch is another matter - i would say gloves play a big part in that, but who knows...

This whole thread started with quotes from Danny Murphy saying Fulham practiced putting good crosses into the box :eek:mg: , this isn't something that would just work against us but every other team with a less than rocklike defence and a keeper obviously not playing at his best. It's hard(impossible) to defend Gomes after some of his recent errors but if you're looking for a keeper who is faultless coming for crosses and is a worldclass shotstopper I wouldn't bother, every keeper will make errors that cost goals so whoever comes in this thread will still be here but the name will have changed.

Or maybe said fans can only attack other posters with insults when said bög runs out of arguments.
Why do you call me the swedish word for gay??

I posted that fans that like a player might not be interested in trying to argue with an ignorant mob. Did you feel like that ignorant redneck-mob that gets on a players back after a short time in a new league?

jaaskeleinen has been one of the most consistent keepers in the prem, has dropped minimal clangers (all keepers drop them)

thats an absolutely fanatstic shut IMO

And Jussi's still only 33, think he's still got a good five years left at the top.

We should stick with Gomes (but tbh nothing surprise me with Spurs now a days)..the refs need to protect him more from corners and also the central defenders ie Woodgate have to take more responsibility.

It's kind of ironic if our managements "grass is always greeners" policy has backfired twice .

First we replace our manager with the manager of the club that eliminated us from UEFA largely due luck of awful refereeing and individual mistakes .

Then we get the goalkeeper of the club that eliminates us who had a blinder of a second leg .

Personally I reckon Gomes will come good but our club has the capacity to turn any player crap because the failure filters down from the very top .
