Agree Tyler, I was hoping we'd sign Bony too.
Obviously signing anyone who hasn't played in the PL is a gamble ( don't we know it !), but at least you can minimise the risk as far as possible, and it was obvious that the one thing that wouldn't phase Bony about the PL was the physicality !

Welbeck is seriously underrated IMO. Works tremendously hard for the team and brings other players into the game. Alongside that he's also useful tactically as he can play centrally or on the left to nullify offensive threats from the front. His goal scoring record isn't great but it is better this year. In the 8 league starts he's been given centrally this season he has 8 goals too. (I think that's right - source: http://www.football-lineups.com/footballer/26294/?t=1078&s=2)

I'm not sure about £20m but I think £15m for him if you take into account everything he brings as a player is perfectly reasonable.

Oh and he seems like a really likeable chap too.

Obviously it's bullshit, but we could do with a player of similar characteristics - pacey, relentless worker, making intelligent runs behind defences, it's something we've lacked for a long time.

Personally I don't think he would have been at United for so long without the right work ethic. He's just not going to get into the united front line as their premium striker. If he wants to progress his career and show everyone what he can do then a club like Tottenham would be the best place for him. Not sure from me - could be a good signing if told he's No.1?

Really we only need another forward in the event that we can pull in a proven difference making killer of a striker (thinking Lukaku or maybe Remy) or a young player who has the potential to reach that level (thinking Batshuayi or Drmic perhaps).

Welbeck is certainly useful but he's never going to be a killer goalscorer or difference maker. More of a good versatile squad option who does a job for the team. Doesn't offer an upgrade on Ade, Kane and Soldado (at least in the event that the latter will begin to show his true worth under a proper coach).

He's far from terrible and is actually a half decent player.

On his day he can be clinical and composed ... the problem being is that he blows cold more often than hot.

I wouldn't be opposed to signing him for around £8-10m and using his a 3rd striker ... but then again we've got Kane ... yes he's a different type of player but he's playing well, scoring goals and deserves/has earned the right to be our 3rd striker next season.

Ideally we will move Ade on (paying his full wages, attitude problems, last chance to get a reasonable fee for him). A front 3 of Lukaku (or similar), Soldado and Kane will be sufficient if we can a left winger and a deep sitting Modric-esque player in central midfield.

i would definitely take him but not at £20m. his versatility is also an added bonus, can play left and central, would give us a good option and would add to our home grown quota.

I wonder if signing Sturridge from Chelsea would have garnered a similar luke-warm reaction? Although always a better finisher than Wellbeck, he was seen as a bit of a selfish luxury player...

He could potentially be a terrific signing IMO, even if we have to pay £20m.

  • He's 23
  • He's home grown
  • He can play on the left wing or as a centre forward
  • Genuine pace and has got a brain to go with it. Would be perfect for stretching defences.
  • Works hard
  • 9 goals in 21 PL apperances isn't too shabby for a player who is judged to be a poor finisher. The fact is he can get goals
I just can't see United selling though. I think they'd be prepared to let go of Hernandez instead, who isn't as well rounded as Welbeck.

Might as well go the whole hog and bring in Cleverlinho and Welbeck for a combined £ 30M

Come on Tim, do it

Sort of EPL acclimatised player that Tim would want - not that this should have any bearing hopefully.

Offers versatility and English.

Price of anything below £15m, then think we should certainly consider depending on who else we get in.

Like him

Want Bony too

I like Bony, he's extremely strong/powerful, can hold the ball up, a very powerful shot from both in and outside the box and he can head the ball too.

My only concerns are that at times he's looked very selfish (shoot instead of looking for a pass) and considering Swansea paid circa £14m for him, he'll set us back £20-22m?
