To be fair the squad is in good nick, and now with another centre half in we'd have to sell a bunch to bring in a bunch. We need home grown and we need wing forwards, hence Welbeck & J-Rod being looked at.

Baldini's job now is to look for U21 talent, preferably U18 talent.

Why do we need homegrown? We have enough 1st teamers to make a 25 man squad. Either by being British or 21 and under.

Fair nuff till J Rodd is fit. But look at the trouble we've had in getting MS. Will Rod be easier? I know his contract is running down but he'd still have 18 months left.

Where are all the hidden gems that Baldini is meant to unearth? Why are we not going for the Will Hughes and Patrick Roberts's of this world and what happened to all those eastern european kids we get linked with? Get back to buying the Modrics, Berbas and Bales if we want to improve. Yes they might take a little while to settle but next year we could have a world class player rather than be shipping deadwood.
Jay Rodriguez will have a year left on his contract next summer and has refused to sign an extension so think he will be leaving

Hertyid isn't confident

That was this morning, things can change quickly. And the reason he probably wasn't confident was because of Arsenal's rumored interest.

Edit - just saw his latest, apologies mate.

Hasn't Wenger said today that they still aren't interested in a striker even after the latest news on Giroud?

Hmmm maybe with the news that Remy could soon be a Chelsea player it amped up Arsenal's interest in Welbeck?

I believe Welbeck would be a terrific signing for Spurs. Perhaps the move for the cheaper midfield option in Stambouli means cash is being freed up to make a serious offer to & for Welbeck? The possibility of joining Spurs under a modern, player's coach (who can develop players) should be a big draw to Welbeck. Similarly, Welbeck would have a better chance to shine at Spurs as opposed to another club, such as Arsenal.

The next few days should be interesting.

So Arsenal, Liverpool and Juve have all shown interest but he's "bang average" and not good enough for us

Actually you'd prefer a squad of 30 and then about half a dozen kids to fill in the gaps for early cup games if you're serious about top 4 and higher.

We're close, but if you look at the quality of the home grown over 21s, you can see an obvious part of the squad where we can bring in a couple of players.

Where are you getting this idea from?

Look at the squad size of the Man City team, Arsenal team, Chelsea team, and Liverpool team from last year.

All top 4 teams had squads all in the range of 24-25. Not at all 30 players.

The only way I could see this (or any other attacking signing for that matter) happening is if a forward/winger makes way. The route to that I felt was going to be Townsend to Soton in exchange for MS but with that now not happening I really can't think how we'd fit Welbeck or another in. Lennon's too difficult to offload so that leaves Soldado as the only other realistic option to go. I can't think who'd be left for him now that Torres has gone to Milan though.

I think we might well be done for incomings.
