Scored a lot in pre-season last season when he was playing. Last season played very little, but still scored a few. This season watch him score goals, goals and goals.

Bent is the real deal.

I do not want flair up top, flair in the middle is fine enough, Up top i want someone like Batistuta. Someone who can score goals not stromping around flinging both arms.

Guys, it's pre-season. We haven't exactly been playin top class opponents. I do agree, however, that he is proving that he wants to show what he can do and I think he will be quite important in the upcoming season.

It's funny that last season everyone was criticising Bent for not being able to play our system & the first thing Ramos has done is change the system...

Seems it wasn't Bent that was the problem in the first place and Ramos recognised that.

I love being right.

Will be interesting to see who gets to play against celtic.

Bent has now played 180 mins this week, so I doubt will start. And who knows whats going on with Berba, but if he doesnt start who will?

I've been backing Bent since he signed. What has amazed me is the fact that he seems to have been held accountable for his transfer fee. OK, he may have got a slice of that, but it was negotiated by us and Charlton. He wouldn't have had any real say in it. I always remember the fact that he turned down more money from Wet Sham in order to come to us.

Although he score in last pre-season, the quality of the opposition we had then was far below what we're up against now. Also, he was palying against a completely different style of football in South Africa. Plus, his confidence hadn't been shattered. I would suggest that he's a better player at the moment than he was then for the following reasons:

1) The fact that as a new signing, he would have been hungrier to impress when he first arrived. That particular hunger will have faded and his natural drive will be at work now.

2) He was scoring against really bottom-drawer opposition in South Africa. That whole tour was a branding exercise designed to raise Spurs awareness in an up and coming football market, one in which the next World Cup will be played and the opposition was really dire. This pre-season, he may have been playing against comparatively weaker opposition than he'll face in the PL, but they're stronger than last pre-season and he's done better than he did then, so another improvement.

3) The way he's been utilised is exactly the way he needs to be employed. Maximum use has been made of his pace and eye for goal. Previously he was being used the same way Keane and Berbatov play(ed), dropping deep and trying to prise open the defence, which is not what he's best at. He's best at waiting for the opportunities and using his speed to drive into the box and as he showed against Norwich keeping cool under pressure.

For those reasons, I think that he's done better this pre-season than last. And the way in which he has grabbed the chance he's been given with both hands and the way in which Juande has fitted him into the team makes me feel that he'll do better, more foten for us this season.

Bent's done well in pre-season so far.

Having said that please don't get over-hyped with him. All hands agree that he's got good physical qualities and makes alot of runs, but he isn't the 'savior' we are looking for upfront.

He simply doesn't have enough class. Rooney's the only English striker with some class.

We need a world-class player upfront if we aim to surpass our goals-scored on last season. As things stand, this wont' happen.

You were doing so well up until that point.

Bent will score goals against any team no matter what the level of opposition is, all he needs is games. Last pre season he scored, and when he played last season he scored, and he's proving it now also. The fact that the new system suits him to a tee is making him look even better. He can lead the line for us this year, no doubt. I've been backing him all along, and always called for him to start ahead of Keane. I'm hoping we'll get to see a lot of him this season.

Well done Benty.

It was a couple of seasons before I was old enough to understand football, but does anyone remember what Clive Allen was like as a player? Was there any similarity to Bent?

I know he scored 49 goals in a season in a 4-5-1 formation with him as a sole forward, with Hoddle, Waddle and Ardiles behind him providing the supply and was considered a deadly finisher, although he rarely (if ever) played for england.

From the recent friendlies we've played a 4-5-1 with Bent, a deadly finisher as the sole forward and behind him we've had Dos Santos, Modric and Lennon (with Bentley just joined) providing the supply. And Bent has rarely (if ever) played for England.

Never saw Allen play in anything other than goals videos, would love if it someone could confirm/deny if there could be a possible similarity between the two?

clive allen was a top poacher with players like waddle, hoddle and ardilles feeding him balls. a situation we may replicate with bent in front of an extremely creative midfield.

If Bent scores 49 and we finish 3rd ahead of Arsenal, I willl be a very happy man :). Would still be interested in knowing more about what that team was like though, did you evere see them?

I did wonder when we signed Bent that he could be a Clive Allen mk II & I still have that impression today. We're also shifting towards a highly creative 5 man midfield with 1 upfront. Strange.

I just hope we fare a little better & win things.

Edit: & with Clive Allen as a coach....

I think we're aware of that. At the same time don't diminish the achievement because it wasn't against AC Milan. Lets remember that we've struggled against sides like this in the past, I remember the Port Vale game from two years ago. It might have been a competitive match but I don't think our last two opponents weren't trying because it was "only pre-season" they would have loved to have won

We've had nothing to talk about for 2 1/2 months but poncy transfer speculation and the spurs are finally playing again. One friendly match, tells us more about the team than 100 articles in the dailly mail!
