Of course Bent'll score at Sunderland.
They won't have teams sitting deep and forcing him to play in a.n.other way which he clearly cannot do very well...

I will always appreciate the extra effort he put into his game from the CCF on, he really did hit a short spell where it looked like he was actually able to work the line, run people down and play (a tiny bit) with his back to goal...

That's the crux of the matter: the majority of teams park the bus at the Lane and Bent hasn't got the sheer physical power to muscle his way past defenders or the ability to conjure space for himself out of nothing in a crowded area. Although I'm not sure who's going to score the away goals…

17.17 Sky Sports News understands Darren Bent has pulled out of Tottenham's pre-season tour of China at the last minute. It is thought his purported move to Sunderland is gathering pace.

Interesting.. hes defo off then i guess.

A shame because after being totally unimpressed by him at the beginning I was starting to see his attributes. I would have preferred Defoe and Bent competing for one place and Crouch and Pav for the other. Keane is no longer a goalscorer , he prefers playing deeper. To me he is the odd one out not Bent. Of course if we sign someone better that is fine but to think that Defoe and Keane can compete for the goal poacher position is no longer the case.

Wish him all the best. He scored ten goals away from home in the league last season that's more than Defoe and Crouch can manage home and away, but that's our new "prolific" partnership so be it.

I actually feel sorry for DB, he is undoubtedly a good goal scorer but in my opinion far more suited to the long ball game that Charlton played (& how he got most of his goals for them) than our careful build up play.
As others have stated, he should do well at Sunderland.

I just want to echo much of what has been said here already, I fear he will do very well at Sunderland.

I really expected Harry to put his arm around DB and tell him he was the greatest striker on earth, alongside Defoe (injury aside) I thought they would prove to be an awesome pairing.

Oh well good luck DB I am sure youll do well up there I just hope Crouch + Defoe stay fit and do the business for us.

Because some people are sensitive and need "managing" and Harry has been the sort of manager that has done it in the past. Whether its true or not is irrelevant the idea is make them believe it and reap the result. Anyway didnt happen he basically put his arm around him and told him he was shite.

Not sure if this has been posted already:

Darren Bent stepped off Tottenham's plane to China shortly before take-off after his move to Sunderland was revived in dramatic fashion. Bent was in his seat when the call came to stay behind, and the team's departure for Beijing was held up while his luggage was removed.
The striker had been cleared earlier in the day to join his team-mates for the Asia Trophy when Sunderland pulled out of the deal, unhappy over Redknapp's refusal to budge over an asking price of about £16.5m.
Bent was told the deal was back on after Sunderland came back with a £14m offer, which includes an initial £9m fee plus add-ons.

Expected or hoped?

I think to expect that was a little short sighted in all honesty, they don't seem very complimentary to each others game at all in my opinion.

If we get £14m that's a massive coup. His goals last year alone were well worth the £2.5m loss.

Everyone knows I rate Bent for what he is, but I'm happy(ish) with a swap of Crouch for Bent + £4/5m cash in our back burner.

I just don't want to play against him next year, because you just know he'll score

We should be holding out for a little more imo.. He has scored goals for us and thats what Sunderland want him for so why would we take a loss on him (ofcourse there is a good chance we haven't paid alot of the add ons to Charlton so we will actually be making a profit on that £14 million)
