I think he'll retire.
Possibly, but given that he's announced his retirement from International football now, he may be doing that to preserve his club career whether that be with us or another club for a couple more seasons.

Whilst I wouldn't be completely surprised if he retired if/when he leaves us I suspect it's more likely he will go on for another 18 months - 2 seasons approx at another club before he retires.

Wasn't the reason was he wanted to spend more time with his family and between the lines the awareness that he's no longer the best French keeper

Well... Navas is leaving PSG... maybe he can be the backup there?

Strange that it's man u and Chelsea... I remember once upon a time both when for expensive Spanish keepers.

Threading back to Raya, I wasn't totally convinced of him in the Championship and in their first few months in the PL but the way the team collapsed when he was injured last season and then completely transformed when he returned, with Eriksen's help of course, was a real eye-opener to me.

Any keeper that has such a positive effect on a team has to be worth considering.

Yeah I completely agree. He won't want to continue if not at the top of his game and he's achieved the biggest trophy he possibly could so no need to carry on at a lesser level.
It feels like a more common thing for top keepers to do as well - retire at the top rather than dropping down to a lower level and/or moving to the US or Asia for a pay day as outfield players tend to do.

Van der Sar, Kahn, Cech, etc all did the same thing at a similar age and just called it a day.

Guess they don't transition to a slightly different role, like drop back into more of a midfield role like Scholes/Rooney, or reinvent yourself as a say LCB from LWB as your pace goes as well, to stay at the top for longer so the drop off feels more rapid. GK's start to lose a step in reaction times etc, and I guess that's it really, as it comes later in the career, but once it happens, it's pretty much over, no stretching it out.

Yeah definitely. And since they can often last at the top level for longer, they probably retire at roughly the same age as most outfield players do anyway, regardless of level.

Hope we put a bid in tonight. We just can't continue with hugo for the rest of the season. Great servant, but he just doesn't have it anymore unfortunately.

Not only that, but if Chelsea / United are genuinely going to be sniffing this summer, we need to go get him now.

If they were in our situation they wouldn't take their chances in the summer, they'd make an offer Brentford cannot refuse now.

If we rate him highly we should value that and what it could bring us.

It’s truly sad and the hate he is getting is wrong. The guy has played 440 times for us! Club legend end of
I agree, what a servant and I am sure there have been options to leave to go elsewhere in his time with us.
It is difficult watching him now, he just seems to have massively declined and even worse his confidence looks destroyed and it looks clear for all to see he is beating himself up when making errors instead of brushing them off

Spurs have also renewed their long-standing interest in Roma’s attacking midfielder Nicolò Zaniolo, and are weighing up a move for the Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

Tottenham asked Brentford about Raya’s situation this month and were told that the 27-year-old Spaniard is not for sale. But Raya will have only a year left on his deal at the end of the season and Spurs are considering testing Brentford’s resolve as they look to secure a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris, who is 36. Ajax are among a number of top European clubs keeping tabs on Raya but Tottenham have shown the strongest interest.
