Last line in that article sound familiar tbh.

I'd say when a team offers up a 'top new contract' that things are pretty far along aswell.

Down to the player and his reps it seems.

It sounds like Ajax hold all the cards, therefore I am not treating this as a realistic transfer until a bid is accepted.

If Ajax are offering the player new contract its usually in a desperate attempt to keep the player at the club. So I would say it's not long before we strike a deal for him.

Seeing as we can blow any offer them make out of the water, I think you're probably right.

Ajax are a selling club & they always say every player has a price. Especially after we got Eriksen for such a low fee 4 years back, they want to dig their heals in & sell for maximum price.

What makes this case infuriating is - Overmaars said he won't sell Sanchez for less than 40mEur. Now we seems to have offered the same, now he is changing the tune.

End of the day - it comes down to player or if we would offer few more quid. But given we are already offering this much, doubt Levy will go any further. So, its for Sanchez to decide.

If he rejects the new contract offer, they will deal. Spurs can offer more money than Ajax and I am sure Ajax would welcome the income.

I am still quite confident simply because Levy spent few quid to fly to Amsterdam to do a deal. He does not take a trip like this, if he knew a deal is not possible.

As Gards said, deal should be close. Or Overmaars is just trying to take a position so Ajax fans think its players decision.

So who's place will dier take in midfield then?

Right question is - How do we improve the starting XI & increase compeititon ?
Sanchez potentially is a starter, so he does potentially improves the XI & competes with Dier. Dier in turn also competes with Wanyama for MF spot.

Did that trip definitely happen?
