Tottenham open talks with Ajax over £25m move for Davinson Sánchez

Tottenham have opened talks with Ajax over the transfer of Davinson Sánchez, with Mauricio Pochettino increasingly confident of signing him after the Colombia defender informed the Dutch side that he wants to move to White Hart Lane.

Having sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City for a fee that could reach £50m, Pochettino has been searching for reinforcements to his squad and identified the 21-year-old as the perfect player to complement Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in his back three.

Tottenham held preliminary talks with Ajax, who signed Sánchez from Colombian side Atlético Nacional for just €5m last summer, over the weekend, although they have so far insisted that he is not for sale. However, with Sánchez understood to have been impressed with Pochettino’s plans for him following a breakthrough season at Ajax in which he helped them reach the Europa League final, a source close to the player has admitted he has his heart set on moving to north London despite late interest from Chelsea.

Tottenham officials are believed to have travelled to Amsterdam on Monday to continue negotiations, with Ajax holding out for a fee close to €40m (£36m) given that Sánchez still has four years of his contract to run. Spurs are expected to offer an initial £25m with significant add-ons as they attempt step up their recruitment drive following a summer that has yet to see any new arrivals.

Honestly no idea.

You probably know more than me, but he seems well rated, and i'd be broadly encouraged that this is the type of signing we are looking at.
Fairs. Thought you had some sort of multi-screen stats supercomputer.

This is the kind of signing that if/when it happens, disgruntled supporters of other teams read it on the BBC and think 'well that happened quickly'.

Or at least they would if we weren't the only club on the planet not to sign someone this summer.

Just watched a video clip on sky sports transfer centre live and wow, think he might push harry kane for his place with that kind of finishing lol.
Looks like a player that can play anywhere without looking uncomfortable, seems to have good pace, strong, great in the air and can tackle.
Seems like a mixture of Toby kane dembele rolled into one.
Yeah, and Youness looked the bees knees on his clips. Tbh though he was a really good player that every now and again had a brain fart and was unlucky with his injuries, and obviously his player/manager relationship. Ok, ok I've now reconvinced myself YK was a good player (and what a forehead ;)).

Just praying that this thread isn't in vain. Whats the longest player thread that we didn't get?

like I say, stats and centre backs are not cosy bedfellows.
so much depends on the systems they play in.
I would be suspicious of anyone making wild proclamations on centre back based on stats.

Or even teams they play in. But doesn't that actually apply to most positions?

specifically centre backs are hard to identify reliably via stats, other positions not so much, but sure team effects are obviously real and need considering. The trouble with CBs is trying to apportion some kind of weight to their contribution in the form of goals. So for attackers that's simply done, defenders far less so.
