Name me 5 CB's in the EPL who are worse than him ?
Senderos,Clint Hill,Damien Delaney,Modibo Diakite,Mike Williamson.Delaney had a good season at Palace but watching him when he was at Ipswich was as bad as it gets.Might be wrong about the last 2.

so 2 definite's so far then, and I would dispute Senderos too. He's no worse than Dawson who I very much doubt would make the Swiss WC squad if he was Swiss.

Sounds like Hull have now signed someone else as Dawson was demanding 4 year deal. According to the Mirror

Alright, so I am no expert in football, but I have watched enough in my time and all of Dawson's career. I can't say I have seen one defender decline so fast in terms of mental reading of the game.

4 years ago I was thinking King and Dawson would be the pairing. Granted anyone next to The King looks good, but he was more confident and quick with his reactions.

Now he is slow with his thoughts, lumbering around in his mind and not being decisive. Too many times in the past couple years has he sat and been caught on the ball or had a poor clearance.

A great servant for Tottenham, but has to go.

If Poch wants him to stay, he should stay. You don't always need your fourth choice center back to have devastating speed and blinding technical skills. Sometimes you just need someone you can throw on at the end of games to head crosses away like their life depends on it. Sometimes you need someone you can drag to the middle of freaking Moldova in the pouring rain and know that when they pull on the kit they're going to give you the best 90 minutes they've got. Sometimes instead of trying to settle yet another player from yet another league who speaks yet another language, you just want somebody who will be there as a leader and as a teammate. If Poch thinks Dawson has a role to play, he should absolutely stay.

Good post and I agree , as long as kaboul is fit enough, or the medical team believes he is, to play 30+ games next season. If he is not then him or daws need replacing. We cannot go into the season needing daws to play 30 games again, because he's no longer good enough for that

I find this difficult. I'm in the same position as many fans on here. That being that I appreciate Dawson's commitment over the years, and at one point he was a very good centre back for us, but he's not good enough for what we're trying to achieve right now. I'd be content to keep him as a backup, but in all fairness I'd rather our backups be younger understudies that can learn off the experienced first teamers and play in the cup games to gain experience.

I don't like the idea of forcing a loyal player like Dawson out, but I do think him leaving is for the good of the team. If he's content with being 4th or 5th choice (providing we even need 5 CBs), then fair enough, but even then he's the club's captain. It's a bit silly to have you club captain as one of the lesser abled players that you're looking to ship off.

Yeah I agree.

Its one of those situations were its probably best for him to move on but at the same time we don't want to force him out. He's been a great servant for the Club and a true gent by all accounts.

More than happy for him to stay though and be fourth choice etc.

All the Dawson bashing really irks me, all this bollocks about name me 5 worse centre halves etc is deluded and Ill informed. Dawson for much of last season was asked to play in styles that didn't suit him, for some clubs that defend deeper and are hanging in towards the end if games daws would be a great signing. Yes he struggles with the way we play and I think he is no longer good enough for where we want to be but don't underestimate his impact behind the scenes and as an example of everything a modern professional should be to our young squad. Suggesting there aren't 5 worse centre backs in the league is not only wrong but disrespectful to a fantastic servant to the club we all love.

Yep, and it's a difficult one. AVB didn't think he was good enough, but couldn't get rid of him. For all we know Dawson is incredibly happy here and would rather run his contract out. Perhaps he dug his heels in and refused offers when AVB tried letting go of him. Either way AVB was left with a problem and ultimately kept him, playing him nearly all of the time. The media said he proved himself but I think that was partly down to Kaboul's injury problems, Chiriches being new and inexperienced in the PL, and the fact that Dawson is the captain.

I'm not going to be gutted if we don't sell Dawson, but I will be disappointed if we can't bring in a player to strenghten the defence because we can't sell him. If this is the case and Poch ends up having to play him because of the (possible) reasons AVB did, then I can see us having problems at the back next season.

Maybe if he starts telling Dawson that he wants him here, here and here all within 10 seconds on the whiteboard during tactical instructions, he'll scare Dawson so much that he'll ask for a transfer.

For Daws.

To the tune of "Should I Stay Or Should I Go?"
Daniel you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
If you say that it is fine
I'll be here 'til the end of time
Dan you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?

You only think about the fees fees fees
I don't want to go overseas
I'd be out of my skull
To go to Palace or to Hull
Well come on an' let me know
Should I Stay or should I go?

Should I stay or should I go now?
Should I stay or should I go now?
I just don't want all this trouble
An' you're having a ***ing bubble
If you think I'm gonna go
