I think we're going to win the league next season.

Honestly.
I think you've just rivalled BomberH's post in the daily ITK discussion thread in the 'retardedly optimistic' category. Much as I'd like to agree, I haven't taken enough illegal substances.

We're at a cross roads

Chelsea and Liverpool won't be as weak as last year, I suspect Arsenal will also be stronger

Newcastle will be as solid as this year and Everton could become a rival too

The Manchester teams will stay up there and probably both also improve

Our transfer window could be pivotal to the next 5 years of our progress, missing out on CL football for a second year running puts us in serious danger of sliding back down to where we came.

If we can keep Bale and Modric (I doubt we can keep Modric without CL football again) and add some quality we can stay there or there abouts with a bit of luck

If we lose Modric or even if we keep him and have another poor transfer window we will fade away from contention I feel, this year for us standing still will be going backwards.

I think we need a quality first choice keeper, a CB, 2 strikers and cover for the wings and on top of that we need to keep ALL our best players or replace anyone sold with someone of equality ability

Big six clubs in terms of quality of squad I would rank as:

City
Chelsea
Utd
Spurs
Arsenal
Liverpool

Here are the Chairman of the big six clubs in order of getting the most bang for their buck:

1. Levy
2. Arsenal consortium
3. Mansour
4. Glazers
5. FSG
6. Roman

Here are the owners in terms of simply bang:

1. Mansour
2. Abramovich
3. Glazers
4. Arsenal consortium
5. FSG
6. Enic

Here are the managers in terms of ability to get something out of their match-day squad:

1. SAF
2. Wenger
3. Rodgers
4. Redknapp
5. Mancini
6. Di Matteo

Here are the managers in terms of team-building, and balancing the needs on match-day with squad development:

1. SAF
2. Wenger
3. Rodgers
4. Reknapp
5. Mancini
6. Di Matteo

Looking at the above lists things look fairly rosy.

On the plus side we've got Levy, and really we should link him to the relative quality of our squad, as it's down to him that we've assembled the side we have.

But if you consider that to develop we we can't rely on revenue, but on team-building and player trading, then we start to see that we're in trouble on a number of fronts. In terms of manager, we look to be fourth, but above us on the list are the three other clubs who similarly don't have unlimited resources. If we assume that Chelsea and City are most years going to be able to buy there way to success, then all of a sudden we're at the bottom of the pile.

It's our misfortune that being very good is some departments is not good enough, we have to be excellent. To get to the level where we want to be we need an Arsene Wenger, or a SAF, and to make matters really difficult we need to pick them up (as Utd and Arsenal did) at a stage in their career where they're not massively proven, but have shown strong signs of ability.

The depressing thing is that Rodgers was by far the most promising of the candidates out there. But he's just strengthened our biggest rival below the four ever-present CL clubs. Of the other potential candidates there's none that stands out. Perhaps one will be worth a risk, but it would be a massive risk. Martinez? I'm really not convinced by Wigan whatsoever. AVB, huge question marks over his decision making under pressure at Chelsea. No one else.

But sticking with the current set-up means standing still. We know that the difference between us and Arsenal last year was the coach, as our team was stronger than their's. We know also that our team is stronger than Liverpool, but the real reason we were so far ahead was the difference in quality between our coach and their's. Now the quality gap between their coach and ours is the other way around. In terms of squad, ours is only going to get weaker this summer, even if we freshen up some personnel and keep the star names, the quality of coaching harms them. Modric, Bale, Sandro, VdV, Defoe, and BAE, have imo gone backwards in the last 12 months, in particular for the likes of Modric, Bale, BAE, and VDV they're picking up bad habits. Their work ethic has steadily deteriorated as they've become established first-teamers. Their mentality is not ideal. And their learning has stagnated.

My prediction for next season is 6th to 10th. But I can't see how to change anything from where we are without making the situation worse, and if we end up at the bottom end of that prediction range it's going to be hard to turn the slide around. I think we've all just got to hope that another Brendan Rodgers type announces himself on the scene over the next 12 months.

6th to 10th...if Bomber is calling for a 'retardedly optimistic' rating for his posts, this must rate a 'suicidally pessimistic' rating.

We will be fine...even if we sell Modric-Pony.

Well then take some more god damn you, our season depends on it. Somebody, anybody, get this man some methylenedioxymethamphetamine, stat!

In all seriousness I do actually think we'll win the league. No idea why, I just feel it in me.

Our starting XI next season could very well be:

--------------------Friedel---------------

Walker---Vertonghen---Kaboul-----BAE

----------Parker------Sandro------------

Lennon----------VDV---------------Bale

------------------Ade--------------------

That's a good team and more than capable of battling for one of the top-4 spots

So I'm pretty optimistic that next season will be a good one

The thing is SP, I was pretty confident last year, making a bet with colleagues (after the first two games) that we'd finish third. I weighed up the opposition, and our weighed us up, and thought that Liverpool were completely over-rated, that we were better than Chelsea, and that Arsenal would come 5th.

Applying the same criteria this year I predict 6th. But the trouble with 6th is that if you're not doing well, if you're stuttering, then if your coaching staff isn't much good, if your manager is the type to blame other people. If basically he's bereft of ideas, or coaching skills, then I think you're in a bit of bother, and sixth can easily become 10th (or lower even).

So that's my prediction. And if it happens, I also predict there will be about 30% of the board who will be blaming the board for not backing Redknapp, who will say it is the lack of confidence shown in him which caused the problem, rather than his lack of ability which caused the lack of confidence. Just as most of the idiots who've backed the current government's economic policies, or who believe in astrology/God/Father Christmas, think Princess Di was murdered by MI6/The Queen, that Armstrong never walked on the moon, that the CIA flew planes into their own building, and that God planted the fossil record... no matter what evidence they are confronted with they'll fit it to what they already think.

I don't think we'll have Ade next year. But I agree it's quite a good side. Maybe it will be the fourth best squad this year (we had the third best squad last year imo). However it needs to much, much better than Liverpool or Arsenal's to compensate for the relative strengths of coaches at the various clubs. I also think that because we don't have decent coaches at the club, our players stop developing and in some cases get steadily worse.

1) I don't agree with your analysis of the footballing situation at THFC.

2) There are many intelligent people, who are not fanatics, who believe in a Deity, whilst accepting evolution, and their are many intelligent people who are agnostics. I am tired of atheists on this particular forum, Spurs Chat, implanting digs about religion into their posts, usually with their favourite fallacy that anyone who isnt an atheist is somehow stupid. It is boring and it is insulting.

Meh seems most likely to me.

Death if we keep Redknapp and don't show some ambition to really grown this summer (a slow death mind).

Glory if we grab the bull by the horns, get in the players we need this summer and get a more ambitious manager on board who will be in it for the long run.

I think it will be another very close season and we'll be challenging for top 4 again. I think it will be this way until we move into the new Stadium. Unless we get in a world class manager like Jose or Pep which is unlikely. Maybe a combination of those 2 will happen in the ideal world. Harry keeps us competing for CL qualification and then retires, we move into a new state of the art Stadium, a new world class manager comes in. That would take us to the very top.
