Defence for semi final

I cant help but think what the hell we're gonna do when it comes to our defence for next sundays game against pompey.

2 of the players who played in defence yday are cup tied, walker and kaboul, and we dont know if anyone will recover from injury in time so that leaves us with benny and bassong.

What the hell we gonna do???

There was talks that Dawson and Corluka should be fit. Just got to wait to hear about team news and hope they are fit enough.

Hope Hudd is fit as well, and maybe Lennon (It was this game he was trying to be back for?)

I think Daws and Charlie will be fit by then, if not then Dervite may get a rare chance to play.

Bale is a defender too remember. Benny can play the other (right) FB role if required. So as long as Daws is fit we should be fine.

the amount of injuries borders on ridiculous.

Assuming Corluka, King, Woodgate, Dawson, Kaboul and Walker are unavailable (if any are they will play) and Jenas, Huddlestone and Palacios are not fit then this is what I would go for:

Bentley .... Bassong .... Ekotto .... Bale

or

Ekotto .... Dervite .... Bassong .... Bale

It all depends on what Harry thinks about Dervite.

If any of the players listed as unavailable can play then they should start in defence.

Priority:
RB - Corluka, Walker, Jenas, Palacios, Ekotto, Bentley
LB - Ekotto, Bale
CB - Dawson, King, Bassong, Huddlestone, Palacios, Ekotto, Dervite

Pompey don't really have much threat down the left without Belhadj or O'Hara, so Bentley could play from deep like Bale does. With Kranjcar coming infield on that side it'll open space for him to get forward and whip crosses in. Ekotto should be able to work alongside his fellow countryman at centre back.

Of course, I hope we have a couple of player back instead.​

Hence why its a worst case scenario. I dont expect Pompey to offer much going forward anyway. I wouldn't consider Dervite at the back, he isn't anywhere near ready for an FA Cup semi-final. We could well find ourselves to the bare bones.
