Apart from the goals he has scored so far Defoe has worked hard to close Down defenders and keepers alike. It would be interesting to see how many 'intercepts' he has in the games so far. Of course with Ade there would be a different dynamic. That said Ade is not as mobile as Defoe and would not chase down in the same way. It is clear that many on here haven't played the game....especially as a forward in a team that plays one up front. To me Drogba had most of the attributes needed by a player able to play up on their own. Ade and Defoe both have some of these. Morph them together and you would have that player. Quick, powerful, hardworking and possessing a good touch and shielding technique ....able to get away a good shot from distance if necessary. Our real problem second half was that Bale and Lennon rarely got possession wide to provide relief. The lack of a passer centrally who could consistently find them meant that we just hoofed it and gave back possession. Bemoaning Defoes lack of touches / possesion is unrealistic as he was 4 on 1 with Uniteds defence and it was predominantly hoofed clearances played rather than passes...Huddlesone snagged one decent ball but that was about it.

you could add 10 defoes and adebayors together and they still wouldnt be anywhere near Drogba

Drogba is one of the GOAT forwards. Defoe and Aderbayor wont be remembered in the same breath as Drogba.

I'm pretty sure the decoy run Defoe done in that GIF is a coached tactic. I've never seen the team attack that way before and now we've done it twice in the last three games.

It's definately a coached tactic. All day.

This is the sort of things that you can visibly see a coach having effect. I love to see this kind of stuff, I've not seen it in a spurs team since Jol and his clever full back to winger to rcm to full back triangles, that were very effective.

It now means when we win it's on purpose!

And as for him "creating space". I call bullshit. He was moving into a position to receive the ball to shoot himself, not doing a "Samways". (He's used him by not using him)

I like Defoe, always have, but know his limitations and agree with virtually everything else you said Stoof. Bar the above.

He moved into position to increase Bale's options. Yes he was looking for a good position to receive and shoot, piss poor forward if he wasn't. But the movement was intelligent in that it increased the goal scoring options by moving the CH out of position.

That is coached and is something that I've rarely seen Defoe do. In fact I've often seen the lament that his movement lacked intelligence.

He is not a replacement for Adebayor but he is an option which, if he continues to respond to AVB's coaching in the way he has shown up til now, will prove to be more viable than just as an impact sub.

I'm pleased as Punch for the lad, I love seeing hard work rewarded.

Whoscored say 4 in the PL (the same as Lennon), 1 in Europa, so 5 in total. the best in our side is Sandro with a whopping 16, which puts him 9th in the PL. In terms of strikers Defoe's intercept rate is second equal with Bent, Ba, and Podolski, Welbeck is the best. Defoe is 147th in the league.

Our best tackler is Sandro with 23 tackles, which puts him 12th best in the league.

Have to agree with this, the difference in his play is down to tactical coaching and for all his good points Redknapp was unable to provide that to our players.
