After ten minutes, that game was crying out for an authoritative figure, a cool and mature head, and the stage was really set for MD to fill that role. He flatters to deceive, and it's such a shame.
I feel the same way about Dembele as I did about Huddlestone. I like the concept of them, but deep down I know they aren't what we need. I like watching Moussa glide past players and play tidy little passes, just as I enjoyed watching Tommy spray those passes around with both feet and score the occasional belter, but ultimately that isn't enough and consistency is what keeps you in this league, not just talent.
We can point things out every which way about yesterday, but the fact remains that a double-DM midfield is never a good idea, and a) our supply to the forward line and b) our ability to flush out rapid and athletic attacks was limited.
I am incredibly sick of watching continental sides run circles around us. IMO, this part of the explanation for why English sides struggle more than they should against continental opposition, that we're a bit more preoccupied with physicality and technical quality while these sides have considerably more sheering athleticism. Even these little remote corner of Europe sides run circles around our players, and break our players' ankles with quick dribbling ability, and I'm sick of it.
We have continental players and a continental manager playing a continental style of football. There's no excuse but to look at the players individual performances, Dembele playing in Belgium should of made a statement following Liverpool where most went over board with the praise... Since we got him from Fulham he hasn't progressed his game at all.
I say bring back Mason asap.... If Dembeles to play it has to be further up field on the right in the three behind main striker.
Think I’d be correct in saying the only times dembele has played DM/single pivot without dier/wanyama/winks in last 2 seasons we’ve lost all 3 games. NLD Leicester and today.
