Do they care about playing for Spurs?

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has warned his players he will not tolerate another below-par performance and has urged then to repay the supporters against Blackburn on Saturday.

Another article about Ramos getting tough with the players in the Daily Star. But with half a dozen games to go, is this much of a threat? What actual sanction does he have against players who don't put in the effort?

Seems to me that most are just professional footballers who don't really care who they play for as long as they get their wedge. So what if we sell them in the summer? Someone else will come along and give them a similar or better deal.

Robbie Keane clearly feels passionate about the club - but he's been here nearly 6 years. O'Hara came through the ranks and it matters to him. Tainio is well-known as being a long-term fan of the club.

Apart from those, who would you say actually cares about playing for our club? And how do you motivate a player who doesn't give a toss if he's kept or sold in the summer?

How about this one

Really, Maybe it's just that they feel all the remaining games are meaningless so players doesn't give a shit about those. Or it could be that everyone is just over trying cos no-one want's to be axed in the summer and then everything what they do, they screw it. So as young players propably they just can't handle the pressure, but again they did that in Carling Cup so they really can't use that as excuse.

But they can be sure that summer break won't be as long as for other teams if they keep playing like this and axe will start to swing straight after season is over. But I'm sure all players will get what they deserve in the summer

I think Woodgate is a model pro and cares about which ever club he plays for..Dawson is a player who always seem to try his best and put his neck on the line for us even though he isnt always successful in it..

how about giving some of the players the summer off as usual, while the slackers can stay behind and train their asses off until they either come to their senses or move on? Think i read something about Ramos cancelling the summer tour and opting for a 'sweat shop' instead...that sounds good.

Difficult one BOF, I suppose we need to be in a position where playing for the club is seen as something special, like Manure for example.
With talk of Lennon being sold/bought for £10 million, players don't really care where they play anymore.

Actually he and his family are all Spurs fans and always have been, but the filth were in for him and we weren't.

I've had this conversation with my brother about my son. He's a toddler, but we were wondering how we'd feel if in 10 years or so the goons came along and wanted to sign him up. Would we tell them to feck off in the hope Spurs came along for him, or would we reluctantly let him take the opportunity the goons provide? It is a tough one, real head over heart time, but we would very very reluctantly let him sign up to the goons on the understanding that he remains a yid through and through.

Yep and one thing you cant argue with is that he just is nt very good. But thats another thread :)

How many not very good players keep C. Ronaldo quiet playing out of position just as they are breaking into the 1st team?

I just don't understand why everyone in our squad has to be a superstar or the next Zidane. So yeah, actually, I can argue it.

O'Hara - scapegoat number 6 for Season 07/08, the other five being Jol, Robbo, Bent, Lennon, Keane. :bang:

Anyway, keeping on topic. I think to an extent, it's just a job to them, but there will always be professional pride. I screw up at work, doesn't mean I don't give a stuff about what I'm doing. But that also doesn't mean that I couldn't get another job and be just as committed. It's the people you work with, not the organisation that matters. I don't want to let my mates down, which is why I work hard (sometimes!) to do the best for them. I'm sure many footballers feel this way too.

I'm as pissed as the next guy about the Newcastle result, but I really think there has been a serious over reaction, both here and on other boards. Results for the next 6 games really, in the big scheme of things, don't mean a thing. they will be forgotten if we start well next season and build a momentum.

I just hope that everyone who over criticises the players for 'not turning up', never, ever is at less than 100% effort and productivity at work, regardless of personal circumstances or anyhting else for that matter.

O'Hara has the potential to be a very good player, he just needs a defensive mid next to him, as all of our midfielders do!

I think the topic of this thread is the root of our problems at the moment. We need to bring in some players who are really hungry for success, they dont have to love Spurs, they just need to love winning. Some of our lot just dont seem to care, I'm not going to name names......................oh go on then, Chimbo and JJ are the main culprits. Its that modern day footballer mentality where they feel they are the dogs gonads and dont need to try that hard. And who can blame them? They get their names sang by 36000 fans every week, drive around in Aston Martins and have pussy falling out of their pockets, it's easy to let your ego run away with itself. Especially when they have an agent telling them they could be earning twice as much somewhere else every other day. I think that also has alot to do with why England are so appauling, but thats another story.

Well said Tucko. Anyone having a go at O'Hara needs to look to his games against Arsenal and United and the pretty much game-changing appearance at Portsmouth amongst most others for us.

Not to forget that this is his first year in the big time - and he's noticeably tired. And, AND, he's not a left back by choice or design!

I'm a bit surprised about the O'Hara bashing. In Eindhoven us fans were singing his name for large parts of the game, so i think the majority do rate him. He is young and its his first season in the big time, so inconsistency is always going to occur. I hope he is in the squad next season

Though we are playing much better against harder opponents than shit teams, even if we have lost games to top-4 teams, we have been playing much better in those games than we are usually playing against shit teams. So everytime we play against hite teams we dramatically drop our form under their level.
