we might not be bringing players through our ranks, but where would the youths go when we sign them? not ours but we have trained them! it kinda gets to me when people say O'Hara was a gooner trained, they released him and we took him and trained him after that.... i know its not classed as our home produce, but its our hard work thats gone into getting him where he is now!

As it happens, our academy side is damn strong at the moment. The next couple of years should be very interesting indeed...

It is indeed. 2 wins and one second place in the 2 international tournaments this year. That is damn good.

And we seem to have a large amounts of U17, U18 internationals.. Parrett, Rose, Adam Smith (defender who just signed professional contract), Andros Townsend, out of my head..

And then David Hutton, a Welsh or Irish youth international, and Berchice (spelling?) and Pekhart...

We still need an Academy even if we don't benefit from it directly. Its important for the development of football first and foremost around the local boroughs. Call it what you like but i still get a buzz from watching players who've stayed or moved on from Spurs but still make it in football at a decent level, players like: P Crouch, S Carr, S Campbell, S Kelly, L Young, L King, S Clemence, I Walker, N Barmby, Some I've missed but these players have come directly form our Academies.

We used to call it the youth system which brought through Stevie Perryman & Glen Hoddle, that earns it another 100 years support in my book.

Bear in mind Newcastle decided last time Keegan was there that they didn't need an acadamy so it's youngsters went elsewhere otherwise Carrick may have stayed and been a toon player even now.

I guess these days only about 20% of top premiership players are home country born so the chance of poducing one of the 5% that are among the best is pretty remote, which is why we are now bringing in youngsters from abroad.

Still cheap at half the price

this is why we need one helps them to become winners.http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/talenceshow.html
Dean Marney, nick Barmby,Luck Young,Steven Kelly.Steven Clemence,Jamie Clappham Steve Carr Ian Walker and more i cant remember including that W****r S** and the King of them all Ledley all have played or playing in the top flight of football. Even if a lot of the players i have mentioned are not that great if you get one good player out of the youth its worth it.over 3 of the the players above played for spurs over 10 years each how much money have we waisted in the last 10 years on bad buys so the yough is a must.

In all honesty, this really is where Comolli is doing the majority of his work and so far it can't be faulted!I would say that our youth set up has improved out of all recognition in the past couple of years and we are very good at spotting up-and-coming talent.Just take a look at recent results in Europe for our junior squads - they have been absolutely sensational.I am certain that if these young players can avoid serious injury(Terry Dixon) - we will have a number of first teamers to be proud of!

Did NOT come from are acadamy, we brought him from a club in the lower leagues has a younster.

Anyways this acadamy is looking great this year. we won another europian trophy recently, and we did well in the league (well we started badly but really did well since christmas) and we have loads acadamy players who are playing for the Resserves. Archibald-Henville is already Captain of the resiess and hes 18!? and he has already made a handfull of apperencess on the bench. Hutton is looking impressive, won player of the tournament In are most reacent europian trophy and has made a couple of reserve aperances. And Parrett has also made 1 or 2 reserve aperances, and he is still at school boy level!!! Im only expecting 1 or 2 of these to make it through, but this is one of are most talented resserve side in years.

The future is bright, the future is lilly-white!!

That is impressive (quickly adds up two and one...). Really damn good...

The basic economics of the academy mean we simply HAVE to have one. And it explains a lot about how we do our business.

Everyone bleats on about 'wasting' millions on Bent, Zokora et al, but think about the academy where we can buy, say, 10 teenagers for a total of, again say, 20m quid. The investment at the academy will be less than 5m, so if we can 'create' 3 x 10m players (Huddlestone? Lennon? Taarabt?) then it's all good. In the smaller and bigger picture.

We need an academy to protect the children from the scum.

Think of it as a refuge for all the poor children kiddie-catcher wenger tried to interfere with.

"Over the course of the last year, this side has played in five tournaments and reached four finals, winning three of those. Not many youth sides in Europe can boast that record."

Completely agree with what you say on the use of academy's, and considering the progress ours seems to have made, and the success our talents have had during the year. Then we might have some hope of producing top talents.

good question HT - we're hearing a lot about Pekhart Rose Troy AH etc - if anyone makes it then the Academy is vincdicated probably - but if none do mmmm

tho in a sense even at academy level we're poaching quite often rather than developing local yoof
Totally true. We're forced to poach because we can't get our hands on them earlier. We've a tiny catchment area to choose from. In Portugal, for example, Lisbon has the whole country to pick from. They get them at 11 or 12 and bring them through playing alongside youngsters of equal ability. Here they play at lower league youth academies learning poor techinique and how to play in the hurly-burly down there and by the time we get them they're mostly already ruined.

And then we're stymied by the uncompetitive nature of reserve team footy. In Spain they play in the second division with the B-teams, remaining with the club and benefitting from the club's coaching set-up.

No wonder English player are often so much poorer than their foreign counter-parts, despite the vast numbers of kids which play the game in this country.

And this is what Platini and Blatter should be addressing. They need to impose one rule for all leagues. Either you can or you cannot have B-Teams playing in the lower divisions. Either you can or cannot poach players from outside your catchement area etc etc. Either that or they should stick their noses out and accept that different rules in different nations make for different outcomes and different solutions.

Steve Perryman joined as an apprentice played in our youth team and started playing for the first team at 18. How can you not know that?
Apology due I think.

Troy is 19, and will be 20 in November.
http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/players/reserves/troyarchibaldhenville.html

He seemed to get quite a few injuries when he was in the Academy, but he's looking very promising now.

I think pre-season will be massive for both Dervitte and Archibald-Henville. If they're not knocking on the first team door in August, then one or both would definitely benefit from a loan spell, ideally at Championship level. Because for all their promise, neither has played any real top flight competitive football, and it's a huge step-up from the reserves to the EPL.
