“Suddenly, Spurs have got to be a Champions League team, but this side are not a million miles away from the team I took over who were fighting relegation,” said Redknapp.

Still using this get out clause?

Last few results haven't been great. A reminder to the players not to get complacent? What's the problem?

Harry does make stupid comments like this. I wouldn't be surprised if the follow up comment was "And yea I'd take the England job who wouldn't?!"

I don't know about unacceptable but it is a bit pathetic. It's like going back to the two points after eight games stuff- true but mentioning it all the time just seems insecure.
Do you think he has got one of those "World's best boss" trophies in his office? and that he bought it himself? Not that i don't think he is great- I do but the point is that he should allow other people to make those judgements or risk sounding like David "I'm a miracle worker really" O'Leary when he was in charge of Leeds.

I don't really see the problem.

HR, the media and the fans are building us up as challengers for the top four. We need to build this mentality if we're going to achieve anything.

We are the 5th best team in the league and if we get any higher we are either punching slightly above our weight or one of the teams above has slipped up.

HR has just reminded us all that there is still work to do and improvements to the squad are needed if we are to compete on a level playing field.

We made the mistake under Jol and Comolli by thinking we were destined for top four and instead of putting money into a stronger team we bought backup players and we faltered. Villa almost made top four and then stopped spending and they are now spending as they are in a relegation battle.

To compete with the teams currently in the top four we need to invet in the first team and we can't become complacent.

unfortunately last night showed the difference chelsea 4-0 at bolton we lose 4-2

he may just be having a reality check thats all. 5th is looking were we will finish maybe lower if liverpool go on a big roll.

2 points from last nine when we should have beaten everton and man utd.

A qual;ity striker IS reall needed and i wonder if this comment means a coded warnimng that know one is coming in.

One point to note we are actually two points down on the total we got last season against all those that we have played so far this season.

As I said in the strikers thread, I can't believe he didn't mention that team only having 2 points when he arrived. I'm tired of him wheeling that out and it looks like our best chance of a top four finish is to win our game in hand and do 4 points better than Shiteh

But let's not turn the whole situation into doom and gloom. We are capable of beating them up there again and that would be 3 of the 4

A big, prolific striker would be helpful but re-discovering our killer instinct is key

We're up against 3 established Champs Lge teams & a side who's spent a trillion quid, so what he's saying is true. Probably didn't need the 'relegation zone' comment but it's not far off; we have come a long way in 2 years.
And if it wasn't for the Arabian money men, we'd be guaranteed 4th easy this season.

It's 'Arry innit.

Guarantee if you asked him after that press conference what he said while he was in it he would say he had no idea.

Maybe, after all the talk of being challengers for the league, we then haven't won for 3 games, he thought it was time for a bit of reverse psychology.

But yeah there are some that will find this unacceptable, but it's more to do with their personal feelings for the man, in fact you could probably name them before they even enter this thread.

The mantra at Spurs is "Deputy Heads Must Role" and Levy is not a patient man when it comes to making other people the scape goat for things .

Harry is beyond 2 years , almost uncharted territory for Spurs Managers .

Our wage bill is less than half that of any of the clubs above us . Of course I think we could do better but if Levy wants CL , it's up to him and the rest of the board to raise the clubs profile Internationally to generate the money to pay for top level strikers .

.

Not true. There have been a number of fixtures where we've done better than Chelsea recently (Villa, Arsenal, Sunderland). You can't use one game as proof of a 'difference'.

very true the mind does focus on the latest results. Im sure that there will be a lot more ups and downs.

The key for em though will be whether or not a top quality striker comes in or not.

I see nothing wrong.

The two points from eight games thing is a massive avcheivement on his CV, this is a job to him afterall and he is right to mention this and the fact the 2 years ago we were bottom of the table in a relegation scrap with little to no confidence.

I would mention it aswell.

This is only unacceptable if you want it to be, some will, some have an agenda against Harry no matter how well he does for us.

but everyone knew it was a good squad. He motivated the 5th best squad in the PL back into the 5th/4th best squad in the PL. Now he has the 4th/5th best squad and he's in 5th. He's been playing par golf all along imo.

The thing is one minute he is trying to fill teh players with confidence and banging on about the players need to believe, then he comes out with this?

The players and the money spent, plus the £40 million plus strike force, we are failing in certain areas.

HR is a breath of fresh air for THFC, but these statements are nonsense and do nothign for moral IMO

The £40m on strikers thing gets wheeled out all the time, but it's not as black and white as that.

Money spent on Keane and Defoe was to save us from relegation. When we splashed out on Crouch we had just finished mid table. We haven't spent a penny on a striker since we have been aiming for higher than 4th.
