Lee defensively is our best left back (In fact best full back defensively). His crossing is poor but, then again look at Chimbonda, his cross isn't really much better and he isn't as defensively sound as Lee, yet Lee get loads of criticism for being crap yet Chimbonda is mostly classed as really good. Sometimes I think I am watching a completely different game to most people. :-|

So boring.

How can there still be tossers on this site that after a 5-1 win, and more signs that we are clearly on the up and an in form team, some tossers still have to moan.

I think these tossers must get beaten by their wives or girlfriends.

Lee is a cracking left back, defensively he is solid. Crossing is bad yea, but perhaps if he Malbranque was to stay wide more often, then Lee wouldnt have to do the role of two players!

It's a tough one, but I've never understood why Lee and all of his managers over the years have insisted that his best position is left-back when he's so right sided.

In today's game you do need to be able to go outside of people and put a good cross in to be considered 'premiership class' full-back and let's face it, Lee can't do it.

Good defender though.

Oh and everyone going on about Malbranque going 'inside'..

He only ever does it with the ball (which makes a LEFT SIDED full-back even more important). He always covers defensively out wide and is always available from the left to be passed to.

DT (and yeah, you're him, like i'm a Rock Superstar (sorry to shatter any illusions you guys may have had, but that was said in a sarcastic way)), change the title of the thread please - i thought this was a sensible thread with actual reasons of why you don't rate Lee, despite him being astoundingly good at reading the play, one of the most effective light-weight LB's i've seen who actually uses his head when defending, and actually defends, unlike BAE and Bale, who tend to get forward and get caught out on the break. Lee is pretty consistent too, considering how little cover he's been afforded this season, what with injuries to both of them mentioned above.

Change the title to "Lee's crossing is average, despite being better than Chimbondas, but i don't like him so i'm going to pick the tiniest gripe after one game and make a thread about it - discuss" and maybe we can clear up the confusion

bye :hello:

which is a shame, because we'll start leaking goals again when Bale forgets to get back

Soon as bale returns.Lee will be out of the team.

Well, thanks for that... :|

I disagree, despite one average game - notice i say average, not poor - i think he's done more than enough to earn his place and will continue to provide very capable, very solid cover back there. Berbatov's been off the boil for a good few games and has looked a lot less impressive than last year but i don't see many of you calling for him to be sold

How about Chimbonda? He's had a really poo season so far, had far more off games than Wipey. Lennon? Had a few good games, but been absent more than impressive.

All of our players will have momentary lapses that will be pounced on by their respective non-fans, so lets just take this as the usual biased post that is made up mostly of self opinion built on some fascination with the grass being greener...

get over it, get behind the team, you f*cking chuds

Lee not good enough if we have a fit bale and o'hara (who id like to see more of on lw)

at the moment he is doing a good enough job and if JR persists with him thats good enough for me.

I know what your saying and at this stage in their careers lee is certainly stronger defensively than Bale but there are a couple of reasons going forward why I believe Bale's offensive qualities will outweigh Lee's extra defensive work.

Firstly Steed does an enormous amount of work to help the LB, he might come inside a fair bit but he is always in attendance when we are being attacked down our left flank. Chimbonda is actually more exposwed defensively than the LB as all of Lenny's qualities are offensive ones.

Secondly the return of Ledley, Led's plays on the left side of the defensive pairing and will be there to both educate and help Bale with his defensive work. Earlier this season Bale had Kaboul inside him and between them with their lack of experience we were defensively exposed. If Leds can stay in the team I believe we can afford a more expansive LB and Bale fits the bill perfectly.

No, you have a point. Lee and Chimbonda are not good defenders. Lee can now let players come inside only because King is back, Chimbonda goes missing too often.

So, him playing for PSV in the Champions League Semi's in '05 means... what?

and his 90+ caps for South Korea, getting a 4th place with them in '02... maybe?

If we're talking "next level" in the terms i'm thinking...
