wallyjakeman - against who though? David Healy also produces it for the national team but was he ever top class? Hasnt Robbie Keane just broken the record for the home nations? His record for all of the clubs he has played for is nothing above average

I´m not saying he's Messiah or Messi, I just think it's a bit odd he never gets the chance to prove himself here.

Keano is most definitely a whole universe ahead of Healy....but he is surplus to requirements at WHL...(No Irish need apply). It is just another failing, in the current management team, that players who are not English (or who can't 'do a job' for England) are ignored at EPL level? In the old days it would be treasonous...and little has changed in some circles? COYS!

ha ha people have totally misread my post. i was responding to the post saying that GDS has a good international record and using it as a marker of how good a player is. Keane is an excellent player, however the best home nations striker ever? better than Charlton, lineker etc etc? No! My point was that international goals dont prove much and Healy is the best example of that.

Not saying that international goals equals success in the PL or any other league. But I think he should have been given a chance. If another player had been doing what GDS does/did in the national team/World cup people would be begging Levy to buy him.

I don't believe the talk about the partying and bad attitude.

He has had plenty of chances, both off the bench and starts. Thankfully his Management team can spot a kid who isn't going to make it and have limited his opportunities in spurs' colours.

And I also thank the Management team for taking my entrance fee and not pissing it down the drain by way of playing wannabees who don't take or can't take opportunities to make their name in our colours.

Good for you.

Obviously this is a conspiracy by redknapp to make sure that we don't play this awesome player. Harry is worried that his amazing talent will make us think all other footballers are shit so we just give up on the game.

Or it could be that harry tries to pick a winning team.

He has had 4 starts and 4 subs in two years. I would'nt call that "plenty". I disagree, I think he will "make it", shame it won't be in our colours.

I know Harry tries to pick a winning team, and he has done good. However, I think he could rotate a bit more and let people out of the freezebox.

but only if he is good enough surely? GDS has done nothing in his career to suggest to me that he is anywhere near the player that some here think he is. Sold by Barca for a tiny amount, poor for us, average for ipswich, poor on loan in Turkey and average in Spain. He has only been good for Mexico, and mainly against very average opposition!

How many of those "poor" for other clubs games did you see ?

And of the what, 4/5 starts he had under Redknapp, at least three of them he was very good (Shaktar away and the two CC games), and the home Shaktar game he wasn't brilliant, but did score our only goal, a very good goal.

i didnt see many of the poor games - i am going on the feedback of the fans of those clubs as well as the fact he was regularly a sub for the named clubs and was then not kept on by those clubs! i would say that speaks volumes.....

Glad he has had 3 good games though...... 2 CC games hey? wow sounds like some player. Ill tell you another player who has had 3 good games - Dean Marney, check him out - could be the future!

He did do well in spain this time round but because he plays for racing no one is shouting about over here, barca fans still think he is good enough for them, but say he needs to sort himself out

so 'they' say he is good enough for them if he becomes good enough for them? can't argue with that logic. :)

No he is good enough for them ability wise but needs sorts himself out off the field i.e. stop partying and etc.

I don't live in England and don't read the tabloids, but if he was out partying, wouldn't it be all over the papers with paparazzi-photos of him with a beer? They seem to love to catch footballers in these situations. I haven't seen anything in years?

No, why would they care about GDS? It's hardly going to raise their profile? It would be like the Spanish tabloids releasing pictures of Paul Konchesky on a night out.

As for the bit about Barca fans still thinking he is good enough, these are still the same fans who used to boo him when he was their player.

So, how do everybody here know he's out partying? Because he did it in 2008?

From last year:

Despite the public statement, manager Redknapp has once again sent a shot across the bow of the Mexican making it clear that actions will prove more important than words.
"If he could pass a nightclub as well as he can pass a ball, he would be all right," he told the Daily Star.
"His mum and dad came over to see me last year and he apologised because they realised he wasn't dedicated.
"He's got bags of ability and fantastic skill. Suddenly he was late on Monday mornings...upset stomach.
"He'd probably been in Barcelona partying somewhere. He has had a great World Cup. If he knuckles down this year, he could be a top player."

But you don't believe all that talk do you?

Sure, I believe anything Harry says. He always speaks the truth.

I'm not saying this isn't true, but Harry has also said this:

"Giovani, a £4.7million signing from Barcelona, made his only appearance of the campaign in the last round of the Carling Cup at Doncaster after getting shipped out on loan last season. Redknapp said he had seen an improvement in the 20-year-old's attitude since speaking to his father Gerardo dos Santos, a former Brazilian pro better known as Zizinho."

My point is that I think people is still stuck with the impression they got from Gio a couple of years ago. Maybe even Redknapp?
If Gio's parents met with Harry in 2009 and sorted the boy out enough to show Redknapp an improvement, what has happened since?
