This seems an odd one. I would imagine the agent is flirting with anyone who will listen to drum up interest - as he should. We could have been told some lies who knows. I think the key is can a club get to the point where Fiorentina accept an offer. That would give DV a decision to make. We don’t appear to be at that point yet? If there is an offer accepted I’d imagine we match (unless it’s completely ridiculous EUR90m+). That may be deemed overpaying by say EUR20m but the cost of i) losing Conte ii) seeing another club raise their chances of top four well above ours (if Arsenal) iii) losing some fans as the final straw, is surely too big. I don’t like the sound of a bidding war though. That never ends well for a club like ours. Let’s hope the Conte factor is really important to DV as we’ve heard.

In my mind if that happens Levy has already failed Conte and there would be no way back in rebuilding relations with him.

In your mind. Ok. What if Arsenal pay him 500k per week?

‘He wants to see out the season at his current club and leave on good terms’

Is this how ‘big’ clubs operate? He wants us, we want him. I couldn’t care less what his old club fanbase think of him. Do the deal.

Vlahovič is widely recognised as being the next elite forward and a lot of clubs will want him. Him and his family / advisors seem very sensible and will want a move that is best for his long term career development, but also where he will play regularly with a team built around him, compete at the highest level (e.g. in a top 5 league and CL). Our main draws are:

1. Antonio Conte
2. The relationship that Paratici has hopefully been building him, his family and his advisors since pre-summer, and the support network that we would build around him to ensure both his wellbeing and success.
3. The opportunity to play with, and learn from, Harry Kane.
4. Our world class training facilities and stadium.

Despite all of those factors, there are some negatives:

1. If we are not in the CL I think that will be a major stumbling block.
2. Some elite clubs will be courting him, and they also have top managers, world class players and incredible facilities.
3. Clubs more established in the CL than us pay higher wages, especially financially doped clubs.

Vlahovič is an elite talent being courted by clubs across Europe, if we do sign him it will be a massive achievement by the club. We have a chance (thanks to the draws listed above). We just need to be patient and not get wound up by spurious rumours and opinions on the internet.

Really appreciated the information What Lies Beneath.

This information is really disappointing however. If Levy is reluctant to approve substantial amounts to sign top players, what is the fucking point of Paratici? Employing a top manager like Conte in the first place? It’s just more micromanagement.
not letting someone just spend 70million whenever they want is not micro management its common sense

He's probably the 3rd best young striker that is available for transfer this summer behind mbappe and haaland. There are going to be some very big clubs who will miss out on those 2 who may need a signing to appease the fans and given he's would be out.of contract in a year he will be a relatively cheap option (in comparison to say a Bellingham etc)

Based on that I have never thought we'd actually complete the signing. I understand Conte and FP may be draws for players as is London but when the really big teams circle they have their own draws - usually bigger wages, nice cities (some of them) historic clubs etc,

Just like I was wrong in thinking that Conte wouldn't sign for us I hope I am wrong on Dusan but I think unfortunately we might not be big enough to compete for such a player if / when the really big teams go for him

Yup. If he goes to an established CL team, then so be it. I think we have to be pragmatic about that. And I don’t think you can criticise the management if that happens.

As I see it though, if either:
1) he goes to someone like Arsenal ie comparable or
2) we have no contingencies in the event he goes elsewhere, given the low probability of him coming

…then questions need to be asked, and I’m sure Conte would be pissed in either scenario

And much like The Hulk, I don’t think Levy would like him when he’s angry

It might not be micro management, but at the same time you would have to wonder why you’d appoint both FP and AC if, when they present a deal for a top player, keen to join us in particular and in a position we need to strengthen, why then levy would “have his doubts”

Surely the meeting is quick and easy
Can we afford him? Yes
Is he worth it? Yes

ok guys, I trust you. Make it happen
We need to be challenging at the very least.

Yeah that’s what I meant. Micro management was the wrong phrase, apologies.

Instead, the end result seems to be..

1. We’ve been linked to a top player online.
2. Noises suggest he’s keen to join us.
3. He doesn’t sign for us.

It looks like nothing has essentially changed, and we are still cost cutting. Lessons are never learnt, it seems.

Yes and if its that simple I am sure he will sign off on it but I have a feeling FP has a total budget and a max outlay on one player as to make sure we don't miss out on other targets as well. Vlahovic on his own wont solve anything.

Dear Reality,

No, we aren't buying a super expensive but vitally necessary goalscorer in the January transfer window, no matter how much the fans say we really better buy a top goalscorer this January and it can't wait till the summer .

Yours sincerely,

every January transfer window ever.

Ahhh thank you, I was on the fence about if this transfer was gonna happen this month, but this post has now confirmed the situation. Thanks.

Now that Fiorentina has signed Piatek (whom many wanted whilst at Milan) on-loan, cue Vlahovic exit?

Fiorentina have said the two are unrelated, but of course they would say that.

Keep swinging between confident and thinking we're being led down the garden path on this one, daily.

Trying to not get too involved as it's starting to smell like disappointment. ?

Seems like a game of chess to me. I love the optimism that he wants to come and play for Conte. However, I think we have to be realistic and say we have to be in the CL for that to happen.

So I actually think the sensible thing for the club to do is get the 2 or 3 deals we can do this month done. Give ourselves the best shot at getting top 4 so the Conte factor can give us an edge come the summer. I just don't see DV not playing in the Champions League next season.

If we can give the player CL and he can work with Conte as long as what the player and his agents etc are saying is true. We have a good chance of landing him.

In all honesty this deal does worry me, with Contes history regarding transfer targets and this being the one deal he seems to be demanding. We have to get it done.
