What I’m wondering about this among our fanbase is why do most automatically assume DV would automatically pick us over Arsenal?
Like dismissing their possibility as if we’re the bigger lure.
Now I’d love to sign DV and think he’d be a revelation but I’m also of an opinion that one of a number of teams could sign him and possibly be as attractive as us.

Unfortunately and it pains me to say it we’re a no bigger pull than Arsenal are, it’s a real possibility he goes there.
Maybe because every key journalist, itk and meerkat has said… for this one transfer we are more attractive for DV 1. Due to conte and 2. Due to Kane who DV wants to learn off both.
I don’t think anyone thinks we are bigger than arsenal but I think the attraction we have currently for any transfer would solely be Conte. Conte aside arguably arsenal are more attractive than us.
I don’t think you can under estimate the importance of having a top 4 manager who is well known for improve players and bringing success to each club he’s been at. Arteta I’d still so unproven, yes arsenal are in a decent vain of form, have a good young first 11 and played some great football recently, but without CL football they have no standout offer to big name players right now apart from paying big wages really.

Last bit off ‘gossip’ as my mate’s packing up for the move home now. He went round to say bye. DV has, apparently, had a long chat with Stojković - a two hour phone call over the weekend with the national manager. Seemingly the advice was ‘do what will make you a legend’ because plenty of players have great careers, but very few rise to the level in their country where they are considered for that status. They talked about his move to Marseille after the World Cup and linking up with Tigana, Dechamps, Cantona, Papin etc, and what it was like to be part of something special.

————below this point is me just pondering, nothing more.

What makes you a legend? When we talk about Kane, he’s a striker, it’s stuff like being the club’s all-time top scorer, being the PL’s all time top-scorer, being England’s top scorer, these huge personal motivators. With 16 goals so far this season, at the midway, DV’s looking good to break 30 for the season, and not many do that in Italy… but he’d need 20 to match the all time record, right? (I’m not big on Serie A stuff, so don’t know, I just saw someone had scored 36 a few years back)… however if his 30 were enough to get Fiorentina into Europe that would be something they haven’t done in five or six years… (and Cl, never? That would make you a legend to the fans.) So, if Fiorentina want to force him out, I think their next move is to take away the ability to do what he wants, and bench him. Can’t score if he’s not on the pitch. Take a couple of games out of the total, and there’s no way he hits 30 never mind 36… that would really be a marker of just how toxic the situation is there.

There are elements of this, as it’s filtered through to my mate, that again highlight the importance of who is around you, the whole package - but not about this season as much as about next… I have a feeling that’s what’s been meant when we’ve heard things about how important the summer window is to the plans… you’re selling these guys a vision for 22/23 as much as a fight for 21/22…

I have said this before but a platform we have is that we have a history of making good players stars and let them move on the bigger clubs eventually. If he wants Real Madrid in 5 years time, there’s not many better clubs to come to first.

We’ve been linked in the Media, too… just not as loudly. But the Italian press have linked us.

That seems to be the arsenal-favouring journos though. My phone keeps suggesting articles linking vlahovic to arsenal, but a lot of them are click-bait, and are more rants about why arsenal should get him ahead of spurs, and why they are the better choice.

Until they offload one of Lacazette or Aubameyang, I don't see them credibly having the ability to afford a star striker

Arsenal have a recent run of results but there's no question which has been the superior club for the last FIVE years, which is Tottenham Hotspur, the reverse of how it was under David Dein and most of Wenger. Conte only adds to this.

This is not to say they can't sign a player we might also be interested in for better wages, personal chemistry, fit etc. Maybe its not such a draw to be in the same squad as Harry Kane and Son, but rather Aubemayang...
