Didn't realise hes 26 in June, thought he was only about 22.
I think he's the ideal player for us in that he can cover both positions. So in Son, Maddison & Eze we would have 3 very strong players across LW and AM.
That then still leaves room for bringing in say Werner and another wing option for the right to compete with Johnson.
For me Deki will have to adapt and drop into midfield going forwards, he doesn't fit the mould of an Ange winger.
In a perfect world we have a mid and forward squad like this next season:
LW: Son, Werner, Eze
FW: New ST, Son, Veliz,
RW: Johnson, New RW, Deki
AM: Maddison, Eze, Deki
CM: Sarr, Bentancur, Bergvall
DM: New DM, Bissouma, Bentancur
You then have 12 first team level players across 6 positions, with Veliz and Bergvall getting game time too, as well as some U21 players in the squad that can get appearances and act as emergency cover.
Assuming we sell: Lo Celso (£10m), PEH (£15m), Skipp (£5m), Gil (£10m) and release Ndobmele, then we've got both space and some incoming funds to cover Eze, New RW and new DM.
New ST is very much dependant on selling Richarlison.
In defence we should be able to cover incoming spend with outgoing sales, as we need minimal change there, just some full back options for Porro and Udogie.
Problem is they’d cost huge money. Certainly not value for money at all.The sensible thing is to buy Prem proven players, and Eze is a standout performer. If we were to add him and maybe Solanke, we’d be much better up top.
It’s frustrating to think we could have had both Eze and Olise.Just one person but a colleague of mine is a Palace season ticket holder and goes to all home and away games - he does think that Place will sell at least two stars (likely to be Guehi and Eze in his opinion) - and also believes Olise to be the fundamentally better player and with a higher ceiling than Eze.
I think people have just been very impressed by him. I don’t think he’s a realistic transfer target. What’s with all this talk about Eze suddenly? Haven’t seen any news?
WLB had said we weren't at the front of the queue for him. Which I suppose could be read that we're not his first choice or he isn't oursI think people have just been very impressed by him. I don’t think he’s a realistic transfer target.
As much as I’d like him here (I don’t have a problem with having too many really good players on the books), I agree with you and would say it’s unrealistic. Unless Ange is tweaking what we do up top? If we were playing the Poch way of having Dele and Eriksen behind Kane, then yes, certainly spend big on Eze to play with Madders. That also means a lot of funding in other areas too though.I still just do not see us spending 70+ mil on any one player in general and certainly not one who's best position is a playmaking 10 even if he can also play wide. I know everyone wants him I just really don't see it happening. Maybe if he was a pure winger who could play on ether wing then we might get near that figure but even then I think the most we would realistically pay for one player is probably in the 60 mil range.
Realistically we need a LCB, DM, WF (possibly two depending on Werner), CF, versatile AM to replace Gio and back up goalkeeper. Possibly a FB also. Even with sales raising funds that is still a large output overall. Buying players for 70/80 mil, which is very likely what Eze would cost given his age, HG status, new contract and CP's track record of selling players, i just really don't see happening. CP might decide to sell a star player to give them more leeway in with incomings but they aren't going greatly undervalue a player they know is probably worth near 100 mil in the current market.
Probably. He’s a quality player who appears to fit our requirements so we’ll likely keep tabs on him.WLB had said we weren't at the front of the queue for him. Which I suppose could be read that we're not his first choice or he isn't ours
5 for Skipp. Jeez he is so underrated by spurs supporters. Guy is British, still young, has CL experience (last seen bossing AC Milan in Milan) and has a exceptional temperament and work ethic.Assuming we sell: Lo Celso (£10m), PEH (£15m), Skipp (£5m), Gil (£10m) and release Ndobmele, then we've got both space and some incoming funds to cover Eze, New RW and new DM.
That is just the starting price, though.£60m isn't terrible for either tbh.
Yup and I think the key quotes from that article are " (CP) say that financially they do not need to sell either player" and "Neither contract contains a straightforward release clause and any deal will be complex with percentages due to the player's former club, the players themselves and Crystal Palace." Considering there is likely going to be many clubs looking at both of them I would think it might be a very tricky expensive deal to do.That is just the starting price, though.
