I know one of the coaches at Chelsea and apparently ME people were pushing for a switch to Chelsea last year, but they weren't interested.

His words to me were 'when the clubs asked me if we would be interested, I said that If everyone is fit, he wouldn't even get in his age groups team' at Chelsea.

The point I'm making is that we need to be realistic about where he is in his development. Sometimes we can all be too eager to give every exciting kid his break in the first team.

Like most on here, I think he's got bags of talent, but he's also got a long way to go before he can have a regular impact at PL level.

Poch sees him day in day out and if/when the time is right he'll give him an opportunity.
F**k that!

To be honest, that just sounds like the bitter reaction of someone who's been rejected. Edwards has been one of the most highly rated players in the country for a while now and has always been one of, if not the best in his position for England youth teams. There isn't a team in the country that wouldn't want Edwards if they could get him.

Really good news. If he wasn't showing signs of progress we wouldn't have offered a contract, and from what I've seen he has loads of potential.

Obviously there are plenty of young players that were expected to go on to big things and ultimately fell short (Bostock springs to mind), but there are players like Kane who were great at youth level and just got better and better.

There will be many people better placed to comment on him, but from what I've seen the thing that stands out is his intelligence. He seems to have an eye for creative passes and quick thinking, along with impressive ball control. And as we saw against Gillingham, he also has a decent shot on him.

The kids really really good, yea he might not make it, but there is no doubt the lad has the X factor. Let's hope he does and we have another super star.

P.s fuck Chelsea there is no way they didn't want him, they would love to have given him a shed load of cash each week and never let him near the first team.

That thing about the agents pushing for a move to Chelsea demonstrates everything wrong with football imo. They'd be willing to risk his development for a quick buck. They know they'd pay him more than we would, and they know full well he'd never get a chance in the first team.

The way that they stock pile young players from all over the world leads me to believe that there may not be some truth in what that coach is saying.

Good news, I hope we loan him out for some regular football now. Done players like Kane, Rose and Walker the world of good going out on loan and gaining experience but we don't seem to do that anymore under Poch.

Poch has said that he wants to keep the best youth players around the first team rather than loan them out.

Your Chelsea coach is chatting shit, mate

I have praised chelsea's academy more than anyone on here, to some people's disgust but suggesting he wouldnt get in their u23 is a load of BS. They would also love him

Worth noting that chelsea were reported to the FA for trying steal Kirby who wasnt as far ahead as Edwards

Also another thing, he would never go to chelsea unless they threw alot of money at him. They wouldnt want to go to chelsea instead going elsewhere where he would be pushed to the first team.
Fair enough. Sure they didn't think kane or winks or rose would be good enough either. Same coaches who let lukaku and de buryne go.

We should not get over excited but we shouldn't write him off either. We work in a different way to chelsea, lets see how good he can be.
Rose was never considered a top player in our academy and due to tim sherwoods insistence of him being included in our squad, is the only reason he is here

You missed my point. It doesn't matter if they are considered top prospects or not it is how they turn out.

Yet Chelsea, the club that pays youth players excess of £30k weren't interested in him, so why would Edwards camp push him to a club last season that didn't not want him. So he would go to a club like chelsea for less money?

Meanwhile, Chelsea, last season were forced to give up their pursuit of Kirby after we threatened them with action

Im just highlighting the fact the original poster was suggesting that people need to calm down in relation to the hype, this is a player who has alot of hype but is considered one of our top players more so than Kane at the same age. This isnt just another youth player people are trying
Rose isn't a product of the Academy.
He is since he was inducted as a 2nd year academy player, he never made his first team debut before we signed him.

Otherwise you cant class bentaleb an academy graduate despite only ever playing full time for our academy. Our academy main work is done between the ages of 16 to 20, its when you know how a player will shape up and rose spent the majority of his full time youth career at spurs
