I can't be arsed to stick a new thread up, but did anyone see an interview with Hughes who was slabbering at the thought of being quite possibly the only team outside the top four to achieve Europe via the league for the third year in succession? Then lose to Birmingham 4-1 and fuck it up?

That was a high for me - sorry rez to highjack your thread and apply an extremely poor link to it!!

. That's OK, bud.

CC was nice, but I cant get past losing to relegated Birmingham twice. In fact, that first loss to Birmingham was when I first realized how much trouble we were in.

Your only meant to lose 4-1 to Birmigham after you've qualified for Europe. :)

To be honest i lost interest pretty much when Chopra beat us on the first day, that was gutting, then we lost we Everton, that was bad, then levy went to Spain.....that wa awful ad after that it was only really the CC to get excited about (twas f*cking amazing tho) and have been looking forward to summer ever since, can't help but think both te players and Ramos to an extent gave up on the season! Sad really.......

I AM looking forward to next season tho, can't wait to see wat Juande does with a full pre-season!

COYS

It didnt take a genius to know that we were going to struggle against Sunderland that day when our back four contained Stalteri,Kaboul and Gardner.
Next season promises so much, but so did this one.Maybe we will have something that resembles a decent prem league midfield next season, and most our defence isnt injured for the first couple of games.

After the Carling Cup some players were starting to think about their futures at the club but by that time I think Ramos had decided their futures. Likes of Robinson, Cerny, Kaboul, Tainio, Chimbonda, Lee are all probably going to leave and possibly Berba, Huddlestone, Dawson. This I think unsettled other players and dampened team spirit. The sacking of Jol did ruined the league, it should've been done last summer so Ramos could've sorted our squad then instead he was left with a squad where a third of the players were unwanted by him. Next season will be different, Ramos will be with a squad he will be much happier with (even without Berbatov) and that's when I think we will see the real Spurs under Ramos.

Agree but it still amazes me that 9 months ago when Jol said that his squad wasn't good enough for the top 4 and that his target was top 6 and a cup, he was apparently told that his squad must achieve top 4 or else.

I can understand some post wembley lack of focus but they should have got the blood up for the big games of the UEFA Cup and Liverpool. That Ramos couldn't maintain the team's focus is a concern.

Jol's top 5 squad will be gone. Perhaps last season's Comolli mistakes (Bent, Kaboul, that german prince, ...) will also be gone.

In Ramos we trust. Please God he is as wise as they say.

....
After the game we were driving home and listening to the radio and a caller said a great point which suddenly made sense. "Ramos will be great for the future of Spurs. Since his arrival he has let some players dig their own graves, and he clearly knows now who is, and more importantly, isn't worth a place in his squad!"

I see big changes ahead with players arriving who want to achieve and have the right positive attitude!!!

Good point.

Perhaps the past few weeks have been Ramos' way of identifying players that have the self determination to compete for the top.

After the past few weeks display, there will be blood on the grass at White Hart Lane this summer.

I think the Carling Cup covered over a lot of the cracks. Yesterday felt like the bad old days under Jol. Awful! Feels like the players are taking the p*ss!....Hope Ramos rips the team apart!......I think we can say the Buy British policy was a complete failure

TBH I'm kind of glad that the season has finished in this way, if after the Carling cup we'd gone on a decent run everyone would be talking up our chances for fourth as usual and all the false optimism would follow. Quite frankly i think our players (except 3 or 4) are mediocre and it's no surprise we finished where we did.

What this has done is shown Ramos how much quality our squad really lacks, he will be under no illusions that major rebuilding is required if we are too start competing with the likes of Everton, Villa let alone the top 4. He seem to have a huge squad but no consisting of many top players, it's time to sell some of the dead wood and bring in some more quality even if it means having a smaller squad.

overall I still think it's been a very good season - but I might downgrade it to good if next season is a flop

As already said on this thread the CC was great and league was poor.
Although the end of the season was a bit of a let down I think I've seen enough to give me optimis for next year, amongst the draw we have played some good football, created a lot but not finished it. the problems with the team have been the same with Jol and Ramos.
Poor midfield and individual errors (keepers)

someone mentioned that we would need to win 10 more games to get near the top 4.
This is definately do-able. Stats show that we have given away lots of leads and without too much though I can think of several games we would have won on another day.

Liverpool away
Man U home
Birmingham home
Chelsea Home
Bolton Home.

He played a dam sight better than JJ today! Am never usually a Zokora fan but he has tried hard.

Anyway, what I wanted to say was that this season has been really frustrating but I think the future looks good. Even though Ramos pulled it out to drive them to win the CC, since then we've been shite.....but there could be a reason. Bear with me.......

This is what i said in another thread, "He has let them hang themselves" over the last 7 or 8 games!

Well, it would, considering that it means we've taken 11 points from the last 10 games, only marginally better than the 7 we took from the first 10. In fact, in 18 games since the turn of the year, we've accumulated just 22 points. Contrast that with the 17 points we took from the first nine games under Ramos. If we'd maintained that form for the rest of the season we'd have finished on about 60 points. Why did that recovery not happen? Why have we been flatlining since the home game against Reading?

mate drained is the word to sum it all up. every pre-season i wake up with a buzz waitin to read about who we might sign etc..but after this season i just have NO enthusiasm at all left in me. how ramos can say weve had a hangover for THREE MONTHS after winning the cup is an absolute disgrace and a lot of our players need to take a hard look at themselves if thats the case IMO.

The problems Jol and Ramos experienced do seem to be the same which suggests the are inherent in the squad .

But , and I'm not a superstitious person , Ramos seems luckier than Jol which is not hard -
Fredi handballing in his own area against Liverpool
Steed turning a ball into his own net
The press deciding to destroy Robinson after that ball bobbling incident
Mendes "Goal"
Ledley's knees packing up
Bale getting injured
this seasons injuries
