It is sad that so-called Spurs supporters hate and I mean properly hate a local kid who loves Spurs, who loves playing for England and plays well consistently for both England and Spurs....because (in a nutshell) he does not score every time he shoots.

Where is this hate you speak of? Most people really want Townsend to succeed, for obvious reasons.

I think what you're doing is twisting critical remarks from some, and they're warranted a lot of the time, and claiming they're abusive or something.

You have to accept that a lot of people find him frustrating. That's not abuse, its the reality actually. Yes we all want him to do well but that doesn't mean people are blinded by performances. You fail to understand the difference it would seem.

I understand completely. It is not abuse it is hatred. It is not frustration it is jumping on a band wagon of hatred.
Not hatred at all. I just don't think he's up to the standard of what we need at the club to progress. Would be great if he was, save us going out and spending millions on someone who is.

As I said before, hatred is a very strong word and it's hard to hate someone you don't know.

I have absolutely no problem with that. If you think he is not good enough-fair enough. I apologise for lumping you in with the haters.

Last season he had an astonishing 56 shots, 49 from outside the area, and scored one goal—a fluke from a cross with which none of our players in the area quite managed to connect, which found its way into the net. As goalscoring records go, that's somewhat short of great. The frustration is nothing to do with the fact that he failed to score; rather, he had a penchant for speculative goal attempts instead of trying to find a better-positioned team-mate. If he'd looked up now and again it would have helped. He really was Defoe with gold-plated knobs on.

Sure, he loves Spurs, and one can't complain about his effort and commitment, but as B-C posted some while back, it's very hard to think of a Spurs player who's worked so hard for so little end result. Giving 100% is not the same as playing well. He's the same age now as Bale was when he started to kick on and become a superstar, but I see very little sign that Andros will make the same step up. I'm not totally giving up hope. I suspect that if we started playing him on the left regularly he might be far more effective. However, supporters' frustration is easily understandable.

EDIT: I wonder which bit Prawnsandwich disagrees with? Not the one (flukey) goal from 56 shots, surely? I could have added the 0 assists, but desisted.

It saddens me too. I was unaware that Andros picked up an injury against Stoke until I read the BBC preview. Unlike the haters on here I think he is an integral part of Spurs' and England's future and it was tragic that last year he was chopped down by another Stoke defender to ruin his and England's prospects in the World Cup.
For this I get a spam from the bloke whose user name is appropriately a bit of a c@nt. :)

most don't put it quite so eloquently though.

Yeah. I don't particularly rate Townsend but you don't need to look farther than BC himself abusing our players he doesn't think are good enough. Fair enough you don't rate them but there really is no need for some of the stuff you see about our players.

We still had wankers like Lennon, Dawson, Adebayor in a year long funk, no decent LB or RB. Not to mention all the shit behind the scenes with ****s like Sherwood and Freund chipping their two bobs worth in.

I had to turn down two tickets to England v Suf Afrika yesterday afternoon because I couldn't get a babysitter, it wasn't until this morning that I realised there was a game at Wembley so I'm glad I did, I bet the transport was a nightmare!
As for the England football team I gave up on that sorry sack of socks years ago....

Really? I think he is very poor. Nowhere near good enough for. Offers next to nothing.
The guy is extremely talented. Unfortunately like a lot of our players he seems to have backwards in the last couple of seasons.

This requires elaboration. Where exactly do these talents lie?

He hasn't gone backwards. He's failed to go forwards.

I never said I hated him. I just said that he needs to change his mentality because he's still young. Of course I want him to succeed because he's home bred and he's certainly talented, but right now If he continues the way he is with his one man attitude I can't see him having a future with us.

My point exactly, which I said before. He is always looking for glory rather than finding a team mate in a good position. This is the mentality change I am talking about. If he can become more of a team player than I feel he does have a future at Spurs, but he certainly needs to work on his crosses as well!

Must be tough for our young lads coming into a side that has had 3 managers in a year and constantly having to prove themselves and adapt to new tactics and formations.
With little or no leadership, help or direction from any of our so called senior players.
