God, I didn't even know this was on last night until I saw this thread.

Thats how little attention I have paid to football since our cup win.

The United States disappointed me. They played like a team that didn't want to lose in a game where they really had nothing to lose. The squad selection was also a little odd for both sides. England is more understandable, Cappello is toying with the lineup, I think Bradley needs to get the United States confidence up though. They have to play Spain next week and then Argentina. They need a belief they can beat these top teams and Spain and Argentina are a class above England.

As for England. You lot just never impress me, ever, except defensively. There's just no creativity, movement besides Gerrard and Rooney seemed poor. Cappello didn't play many players that can actually take their defender on besides Rooney. Unless you're counting on set pieces getting you to the semi-finals of a World Cup, I can't see it. You lot need to find a partner for Rooney to play off of and quick. And how Carrick can't get a game for the national squad is beyond me. Really since you have only one good striker in England. I don't see why you don't play a 4-2-3-1, with Carrick and Hargreaves holding(maybe Barry), Gerrard in behind Rooney, and Cole down one flank and Ashley Young down the other. That squad needs an injection of pace as well. It'd be best if Rooney could play in behind a lone striker like Bent and have Gerrard out right and Cole out left. Gerrard is so much better out wide except that he wants to be free to roam wherever he wants, which ultimately forced Liverpool into the 4-2-3-1 in the first place. Also try to naturalize Mikel Arteta. I think your other biggest problem is your fullbacks don't offer much going forward, though when you have David Beckham playing down the right, getting forward can be dangerous.

After we scored the second goal, we went through a very short spell of hammering them, because it seemed to make the England players realise that if they actually play football they could win by quite some margin and in style, and I think the squad is capable of doing that, but the team Capello put out and the way they played was just so defensive and boring. I don't we're good enough defensively to just try and defend, and that's not what anyone wants to see anyway. Not in England at least.

I can't understand why we don't play a formation with Rooney as the only striker and have at least one, if not two, attacking pacey players behind him or on the wings like Young or Walcott or Agbonlahor (or Lennon who should have been in the squad).

James

Brown -- Ferdinand -- Woodgate -- A. Cole

Hargreaves -- Barry

Walcott -- Gerrard -- Young

Rooney

Something along those sort of lines. Perhaps Joe Cole as one of the wider attacking players.

But guessing that they were easy as well!

Lampard was crap yet again, he finds it difficult i guess when he hasn't got Essien, Makelele Ballack etc doing all the hard work for him. When i saw Stevie G was starting on the left i was annoyed but finally he puts in a top class performance for England.
