Brilliant deal tbf. English, young, great potential and £4m. Excellent.

Veljkovic as well, seems to be getting a chance during pre season. unless we are looking to loan him out

Tricky isn't it, i think we would have a youngster too many in and around those CB + DM/CM spots, looks to me like just the right time for a loan move, hopefully we choose more carefully than the recent Mason moves.

I might be missing something but why do stories from the thanet gazette keep being posted? It is a really small local paper where I live. I might be missing something
It's the only local paper....and it's a bloody good local paper! Greetings from Planet Thanet.

Two footed. Lovely.

Exactly my thoughts. I'd read he'd cover right back too then when I saw the video I was surprised to see a left footed left CB, but as the video went on a little he started using his right more. Very comfortable with both even in the odd challenge he had to make in that video.

Quite fancy emailing the FA to question the homegrown thing. Anyone find a good email address?

In what sense?

Whether an Englishman can't be classed as homegrown because he plays abroad for his formative years. Hardly encouraging our youngsters to develop their skills by restricting them to one league and one style of football. Seems like it hasn't been thought through.

Happy with signing but I hope that this doesnt mean we aren't in for Jamaal Lascelles, who apparently expected to join us last week and some here are saying he said his good byes

Though the Kuwaitis are a joke perhaps things changed with their £50m a year stadium sponsorship(which is more than any other club in the world)

But then you have the issue of foreign players no longer being counted as home grown. This situation is crazy since he has been at international duty in the country working with Chris Ramsey as well as playing with Jamaal Lascelles as well.

How is it restricting them? If he goes abroad and forgoes the homegrown status it doesn't mean much really? If he is good enough he will come back just as part of the squad, not be included as an average player to meet some enforced quota

Why? Who says being "homegrown" should be exclusive.

I can see the quotas getting stricter though, maybe limiting foreign players in a squad. Seems harsh to be potentially forced out of your domestic game because your parents moved to Portugal when you were 10!

Love the focus on youth and the bargain price. Seems very unlikely we'll lose money on this one. Got Levy's finger-prints all over it.

homegrown merely means that they were trained here, for it to count heritage/nationality it would require a rule change/definition change

The point of the homegrown wasn't to promote english players but to promote the use of the their own academies which is why there is a club trained homegrown rule for UEFA. The homegrown wants to improve academies in the countries not the pool of players

If you start including nationality it gets complicated as the fact of the matter is Eric Dier at the moment is neither English or Portaguese in the eyes of FIFA until he plays for the national team in a competitive match,

Someone was saying in the other thread that it was something like being affiliated to an FA for three years between 16 and 21 and because he's played through the England age groups then he might get HG status.

It sounded optimistic to me but is a good argument.... fingers crossed
