Ha! I like Dier but I don't know how you can say he is better than Fazio.

Dier has only played half a premier league game as a CB for us. Where as Fazio cementing his place alongside Vertonghen has arguably been central to our recent upturn in form.

Dier might turn out to be the better player but I don't think anyone can comprehensively state he is better at this moment in time.
Because I'm better than Fazio.

Fair enough, just am sceptical about loaning younger players out.
A lot of the players we loan out are never going to make it to the first team. The point is they go out, do well, increase market value and we then sell.
Definitely helps players. Tom Carroll will be next. Been loaned out for years, working his way up the divisions and now in the prem. Could come back to us next season as a good player.

Because I'm better than Fazio.

Then in that case you better make yourself known to Messers Mitchell and Baldini.

Fazio has been good since partering Vertonghen. He's slow, sure, but he doesn't look uncomfortable or out of place. In the last few games he's bossed pretty much anything in the air and he's proven to be up for the physical challenge the Premier League presents. Not bad for a player who has only had a handful of games over here and is still adapting.

Of course, there's the high line issue because of his lack of pace, but the fact remains that no matter how fast a defender is that's the risk you take with a high line. Vertonghen isn't bad pace-wise for a centre back and even he gets caught out. Attacking players tend to be faster than centre backs, that's generally the way of things, and when you knock a ball past a high line the centre backs are always going to be ruined for pace, especially since they're turning and tracking back whilst the opposition are already facing and sprinting towards your goal. I don't see his lack of pace being a problem as long as the defence maintain their shape. Now whether he can take charge of a back line is an entirely different question. Something none of our current CBs have shown that they can do. As a former captain you'd hope he be able to. We'll have to wait and see.

This is where we fundamentally differ in opinion. I think he looks awkward, uncomfortable and completely out of place. His performance against Swansea was comical and at times against Burnley he was beyond desperate at attempting clearences.

Fair enough. I can't comment on Swansea because my stream was shite but I was at the Burnley game and I thought he played well. Had a couple of awkward moments but that's a given for everyone in our squad. He was totally dominant in the air, and I think that works against certain teams.

Well, we'll see anyway. I never had him down as our answer to our CB woes when we signed him so it won't be a big loss for me if he doesn't make it. I have more hope for young Dier, and I certainly hope he gets some games at CB very soon.

For the sake of his development, I'd put him on loan today if I could and really it would have been ideal for him to have gone on loan before the season even started, although as it turned out he was able to cover at right back and score 2 goals! But get him the hell out of there on loan in January if we don't sell anyone, unless Poch begins to take him half bloody seriously as a CENTER BACK, which lets not forget, IS his actual position. Getting him a loan deal, should be like giving sweets to a fat kid.

Whether or not we agree that Fazio is better or not. Dier, for me is an outstanding talent, we're still in all four competitions and we will need him.

Who would have thought that both Dier and Kaboul would not even be in the squad earlier in the season?

That's my take on it. No point in getting to bleary eyed over a player that was decent pre-injury (i.e. Sandro) - I'm much happier with our other options, although he has had some decent games this season.

Dier was lucky to get in the squad from the off, and hopefully he'll get some more game time at CB. I hope he won't get Zeki Fryer'd

But how many times have loans really helped us and player comes back a lot better and establishes a spot in first team? So far in recent times can only think of Mason

Rose , walker , caulker (never should have sold him)

And that it seems every team he plays for is fighting for survival

Top players still manage to stand out in shit teams. He's not a poor player by any means, but he's not outstanding or better than anything we have.
