I know right, but it's because they are from a world perspective, still the biggest british club going. A few drab seasons does not change that, especially when they can splash insane cash on Pogba and then Lukaku. But Tottenham have stubbornly refused to sell...
How dare a club refuse to sell a player Manchester United.
They are seen in all media, here and abroad, as the equivalent of Real Madrid or Barcelona in Spain, or Bayern Munich in Germany and so when they want a player, the spin is that they should get said player and any team refusing are being plucky or stubborn above their station.
The waters muddy with Chelsea and Man City, but effectively, there is a collective image will, that Manchester United be considered the darlings of the EPL. A couple of seasons in the top 4 won't change the opinion of us. We are still behind in terms of finance, fan base, stadium, trophies etc... and as such we will have to put up with this for years, probably until we have won the EPL, presumably more than once. Until then, we are a plucky mid to large club who still needs to understand our position in the media fuelled food chain.
