But the guys being bought are technically good as well, it just so happens that they're well built and athletic. It's not like we're buying stoke players or anything like that (more size, less technique). Just look at it as a bonus, that all are new players seem to be physical beasts.

exactly. i'd compare us to last seasons bayern rather than everton.
capoue is our javi martinez.

You can be big and have good technical ability as well! In fact it's a pretty good combination.

Big, physical, and technical football teams on average tend to do very well in the Premiership, and it's obvious that AVB is trying to emulate Mourinho's original Chavs side in a lot of ways.

We've got a fantastic group of players, but I'm willing to bet that we'll be one of the most boring teams to watch next season. If Bale goes and we don't bring in a decent replacement I can see a lot of 0-0 or 1-1 draws too.

Still looking forward to the new season, and I have a lot of faith in AVB, but I'm not sure how any Spurs fan can say they watched us last season and wasn't concerned at our statuesque movement, and predictable passes. All the technical brawn in the world isn't going to amount to much if there's no brain.

Siggy, Lloris, and Vertonghen as well.

Not a lot of creativity there. I've said it before but we're basically turning into a more technically capable version of Everton. With the exception of Bale we were shit to watch last season, and offered about as much movement and creativity as a block of flats.

I doubt we'll concede many goals as we'll just muscle the opposition off the ball. Just shame we won't be able to do much with it once we've got it.

Soldado was a fantastic signing but I'm worried that he's going to be in for a shock when he realises how few chances we'll be able to create for him.

I honestly couldn't give a flying fuck about neg ratings on an internet forum, but you do know there's a little box at the bottom of your screen where you can voice your opinion instead of just smashing your oversized brow against the 'me no like' button?

Good read, and it's an opinion some others I know share.

However, I personally don't know enough about Paulinho or Chadli, whether they are in the creative mould or not. Perhaps AVB has a certain game plan in mind, one which suits the attributes these players offer. Then again, I am totally stabbing in the dark.

This is definitely how it seems, im not sure it is a bad thing as long as you have some creativity @10 it's a bit like when we couldnt find/buy a Left sided player yet every Spurs fan was crying out we needed it for balance.

Now virtually everyone can see we need a top AM, tbh I dont mind who we sign as long as they are a specialist AM type player otherwise im afraid Spurger is right, Bale apart last year imo we were borderline awful in a lot of games.

I think the rest of our team is good enough that we do not necessarily need Mata, just someone of that ilk. Fingers crossed we get one at some point. I had hoped Holtby would be that type, who knows he possibly still will be.

Last season, despite looking fairly turgid at times we still created a lot of chances and scored a lot of goals. Although our new signings are big athletes they have a lot of skill too. I think you have to be careful using how we played last season as a basis for extrapolating out our performances this season, as AVB clearly had a woefully imbalanced squad last year and had his team playing a formation he doesn't favour.

This season we will move to a 4-3-3 with full backs who support the attack, centre backs who are technically proficient, a solid midfield capable of moving the ball around and a fluid front line. AVB's Porto side were always solid and built upon that foundation, we are doing the same.

Lacerating shadows myself too, but the 'statuesque' that SK refers too (which I agree happened) may well have been Bale-Awe?

Something that hasn't been touched on is that between Kaboul, Lloris and Capoue, when he fills in at CB, we have an all French speaking CB-GK combo. That will help with communication at back, throw Benny into the mix there if he stays.

Can't see him playing cb much when Vertonghen is fit so I doubt this is on anyone's mind.

Presumably Verts speaks French also:

Lloris
Kaboul Verthongen
Capoue

Spose Dembele and Chadli also.

Spurs v Toon this year with Subtitles ..........?

Verts says he hopes to be fit for Palace, if we snap Capoue up would be a pretty solid centre half pairing for that game.

Holtby will hopefully step up and become our creative outlet. Wouldnt be suprised if we see a lot off sandro-paulinho-holtby or capoue-dembele-gylfi as our midfield trio or obviously a mix.

A big problem last season was our second string off players simply wasnt good enough, so when avb aimed to win everything we were involved in he had a choice off overplaying the likes of dembele or field a midfield off hudd-parker-livermore, and that last trio will win us nothing.

We gonna play 60ish games this season, and most weeks we gonna have two games. There will be no set strongest eleven, and instead we try build a squad with enough quality that we can challenge on multiple fronts.

@CardiffCityFC: Mackay: "We had a bid accepted for Capoue but he looks set to go elsewhere. I won't talk about anyone else contracted to other clubs."

Totally agree about the lack of creativity. There is no point smashing our transfer recors on Soldado if we don't have the players to get the best out of him. He relies on good movement and clinical finishing but without creative players around him won't be able to utilie these strenghts.

I've heard a lot of people comparing the side we are assembling to that of Mourihno's Chelsea. However, that team had some important things we do not : 1) a very stingy defense 2) a beast of a front man who could create chances for himself and use his brute strength to bring late runners like Lampard and Essien into the game and 3) very good at set pieces, both defending them and scoring from them.
