Why does anyone think Conte will leave?
He's only on an 18 month contract so is hardly going to kick off about seeing out one more season.

And, considering the progress we have made already, I don't see why we can't be in with a shout of silverware next season (although probably not the league or CL if we're in it).
Don’t we have an option to extend for another year at our discretion?

(Not that I think he wouldn’t be amenable to staying for the next two.)

I thought so too but wasn't sure if certain conditions needed to be met as I assumed the shortness of the contract was more likely to be down to Conte rather than us.

Would be very surprised if he wanted to ditch us for PSG. Conte would get very bored managing PSG on a week by week basis.

definitely. You can tell he loves the PL because it’s so difficult to do well in and especially with us. He’s a man who likes a challenge. He wasn’t the most talented player but worked very hard to get where he did. I remember him being a right fucker on the pitch too with a never say die attitude. He wants to be in this league. I’m certain of that.

If we back Conte in the summer I’d be very surprised if both he and Kane don’t extend contracts. This would show faith in the prospects for the season and will stop destabilising rumours when the season starts.

need to sign a quality player quickly after the season ends. Maybe one of the free agents. Dybala? ?

Getting most of our purchases in before pre~season will be the key.
Free agents should be here for the first day onwards and if any late opportunities arise they should be to supplement what has already transpired, NOT being 4th choices etc.
It's going to be epic either way

You do realise that quality Free Agents will be waiting to see who makes them an offer particularly from one of the big clubs. They will be in no rush to commit themselves to teams like us.

I'm sure @whitechina realises that, mate. He's a pretty clued up contributor.

But I agree with him.

We're meant to believe that freebies is the market that Paratici specialises in. So it's probably pretty reasonable for @whitechina to say that it would help persuade Conte & Kane to prolong their stays at the club?

For sure and for many free agents they will know whats happening and if we get CL and Conte is here, thats a pretty big reason to join us

Interesting debate though. Conte wants Player A and he wants him for the start of pre-season, but Player A (/his agent) wants to wait to see if he can get a better deal elsewhere. What do you do?

1) offer Player A (/his agent) such an obscene amount of money that they cannot say no (is that financially sustainable if Conte identifies 3 or 4 players and they all adopt the same approach?)
2) wait til later in the window to see if Player A gets a better offer (likely to upset Conte)
3) offer Conte an alternative (2nd / 3rd / 4th choice) you know you can get in for pre-season?
4) any other suggestions?

This debate will run and run.
FP is meant to get it done. If Conte is on board we'll be an attractive option for many~ if they want to play in the position they're signed for

I think it's fair to say that these players & their agents will already know about interest from perspective clubs.

It's kind of no different to Diaz & Traore, who both knew, or their agents knew of interest from Barcelona/Liverpool, and it was always obvious that they weren't coming to us.

This is why I was so pissed off with the Nuno appointment because as I said repeatedly at the time not only was it the wrong and terrible choice it was also a waste of time and money.

If Conte really wasn't attainable then, then fine in the end Nuno as a stop gap and Conte mid-season is better than say Fonseca for a whole season of mediocrity and Conte going to Man.U for example, but you're right if we'd got him in summer and got the recruitment to suit him we'd have probably had 3rd or 4th tied up by now and yep, get him 3-4 more players of real quality and we could be very strong next season.

Still a huge gap to Liverpool and City until Klopp and Pep leave as they're just incredible well-oiled machines but with 3-4 top signings in summer, I could see a 3rd place and a trophy under Conte for sure.
Not even sure what we that right now. We're currently averaging a ppg ratio under Conte that across the whole of this season would have got us top 3 in the last 3 seasons in a row.

I think we've got a top 3/4 side already. What those signings in the summer will do is allow us to actually have a crack at the title IMO.

Am i on the right SC website? Is this a mirror universe where we actually believe in our club? Wasn't it only a few weeks back that everything was falling apart?

LOL. seriously, i'm with you on this. We needed 3-4 players max to compete if these were players that raised the quality of play of those around them. We got two of those already as Bentancur and kulusevski have done exactly that. With two we compete if they are the same level of improvement. I do think we need 3 to challenge to win the league.

Agree with others on the PSG links. I just don't think that would suit Conte at all.

Paratici would be more of a concern with them.

I think the only clubs that might be able to prise him away from us would be Inter (who could still easily win Serie A again) or Juventus, however they have drifted badly and have supposedly blown a lot of their summer budget on Vlahovic.

I don't think he wants Spain and I don't think another English club moves for him.

Hopefully we'll finish the season strong and keep Kane, if that happens I think he'll be keen to continue with this project.

My worry with the free agent thing is it becomes a bit of an auction, which will take time. But I agree with your point.
I assume pre-season will be sorter than usual to accommodate the world cup??

Harry, he was born a striker, however he has the talent and quality to play like a No.10 with another striker in front of him, but I like to have him as a striker and then eventually another No.10. Two different players with different characteristics."
