Which was always the case mate. Everyone including Conte was well aware of how things were going to happen. As everyone is saying(including myself) if it doesn't happen there is only one person culpable. Fact is though there is a plan in place that everyone agreed to, and until that doesn't happen we all need to hold fire, and that includes AC.

This is the point I've been making since he joined about "patience" that Conte keeps mentioning. It isn't us that have to be patient, the most important person that needs to have it is him.

I cant recall a transfer window being as big as this one coming up in the summer for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

So do we think he genuinely didn't like what we did in Jan or is he just putting pressure on board for summer/detracting recent results?

Didn't we have several ITK say he was satisfied with the Jan window and he knew its a difficult time to so business?

You don't want to second guess him but I feel like we may have unexpectedly got ourselves into a position where top 4 was there for the taking, when it wasn't deemed realistic when he joined. And we didn't strengthen in key areas (mainly RWB) and i reckon he's seeing it as a real missed opportunity?

When is the last time wee took advantage of that?

It has not been recently...
Not recently? We've signed Kulu and Gil at 20-21, Romero and Bentancur mid 20s. Emerson is early 20s. Even Reguilon under Jose is early 20s. Its just the judgement in quality has largely let us down. Lo Celso and Ndombele were also early 20s but we spent too much. Really we needed to spend the 100m or whatever on about 4-5 players. If you're going to spend big it needs to be on proven quality. We've generally done best by signing multiple cheaper players because only a couple will break out. Signing nobody for a year and then spending big on Ndombele and Lo Celso who are early 20s as well as Clarke and Sess a few years younger really cost us. They fit the type of profile but for far too much money. Especially considering how well we've done with younger players in the lower leagues at low money (Dele, Walker, Lennon, Bale..).

I think the trouble is we got used to these type of players all hitting their prime under Poch. Now it's hard to get used to going back to that approach. We have been slowly getting there with that approach and I'm happy with that side of things. However we need some prime players if we're going to achieve anything soon. That's something we haven't done in a long time. Even Klinsmann, Davids and VDV were past their prime when signed. I'm struggling to think of the last time we signed a top player in his prime. For me its like Conte is a top manager in his prime so we need to sign top players in their prime to go with the young prospects we've been signing. Same goes for Kane and Son, they need more players on their level because they can't wait a few years for us to build a top team again. It's like we have a split of a few top players and a top manager and need to build on that. Otherwise we'll lose them and go back to the long term building phase again.

I don't mind our manager espousing the idea of realism.

I do mind when they conjure a negative cloud above us in the media, amongst the fan base and likely within the club too.

We've been shadowed by the negative cloud ever since we sacked media golden boy Arry. Nothing out of the norm now that they dislike us. Just embrace it.

SJ is different class isnt he.

I have to admit I was one thinking Conte will explode/will walk after those Sky Italy comments, and Jordan gladly makes me and others look very immature and stupid.

Once again, Simon Jordan bang on the money and cuts through all the bollocks!

I think Conte struggles to articulate in English his real thoughts, so the media pick up on body language and words taken out of context and then deliver their own narrative, which is highly likely to be way off what Conte is trying to communicate.

They are all expecting him to storm off in a fit of rage and anger at any given moment.

To be fair mate that has been your belief for the last few weeks, you've posted as much numerous times. What you are doing here is projecting your thoughts to be what you believe Conte thinks.

Pretty funny that everyone is shitting their pants about an interview in which the very first line Conte says is:

"I am certainly happy with the way we are working."

:ROFLMAO:

this is pretty damning. i was happy with our business because it seemed like it was what conte wanted, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Didn't we have ITK that Conte was on board on the dealings and director of football dosen't do anything unless he has the nod from Conte... That that was the big difference from earlier?

Don't want to second guess him he says as he second guesses him.

My only concern here is that there have been 'plans in place' on numerous occasions over the past few years and they seem to rarely (if ever) yield what the manager wants.

I just hope this is a plan that sticks, because if Conte up-and-leaves, then I'm really not sure where the club goes next.

Just read it through and it's really nothing new - it's basically the same message Conte has been preaching since the day he arrived.

Conte knows that at Spurs we can't sign a bunch of 29/30 year olds on mega wages. Di Marzio and Fab Romano have repeatedly said that we we're targeting 'a younger profile' of player that we could 'develop' so Conte has obviously been aware of this since the day he arrived - he's just saying that, as a result of this, we need to be patient and not expect instant results.

The quotes around losing 4 players in January can be interpreted in different ways but I get the impression that he's basically saying the fact we've had to get rid of so many players in the past 2 windows shows how much of a mess we were before he arrived rather than some kind of attack of Levy/Paratici for selling them. He actually goes on to praise the signings of Bentancur and Kulusevski as they're "ideal prospects for Tottenham" but funnily enough the media didn't focus on that part.

I got absolutely zero sense that he's angry or wants to storm out of the club - he's just being realistic and tempering expectations, as he well should.

There really should be a disorder identified in the DSM-5 that is reserved for Tottenham Fans. Paranoia, depressive states, anxiety, delusions, etc.

Has anyone picked up on the quotes about him "certainly being happy with the way we (the club) are working" ???

I didn't see the full quote and I don't know of it has been translated but of its accurate it really does show what he said has been mistranslated/taken out of context

Whe he says 4 important players for Tottenham I dont think he means on the pitch, I think he means in terms of wages/Transfer Fees record signing etc and what maybe the board thought about them.
