Apparently Roberto Ayala is available on a free after being released on a free transfer... Wouldn't be a bad shout as cover for the season... at 36 reckon he could do a job...

mods... if this in the wrong place feel free to move it!!!

We dont need cover at C/B plenty of options.

Really? With King and Woodgate injured we only really have Corluka to cover and the seemingly unreliable Hutton to play right back. A good professional to cover for the rest of the season might not be a bad idea.

As short term cover if we can't find anyone else then maybe, although the fact he was released from Zaragoza would suggest he's not really up to playing at the top level any more, wouldn't it? He's really small for a CB too, at 36 with not much pace would he really be able to cope with the likes of Stoke, Bolton etc? Mebbe.

Odd, he played against Real theother day, even though they got beat 6-0, you'd think that if he was anywhere near their first team then he wouldn't be released.

A goalkeeper at 36 might be ok, but a 36 year old CB would get eaten alive in the premiership, imo of course.

I dunno I think Naybet did pretty damn good for a year at 34 with a dodgy knee.

I see where you are coming from though, we tend to play a high line and an old experienced CB would be destroyed in that system, sitting deeper could solve this...Hyypia did a solid job for many a year without pace and people like Nelson and Ooijer have done good jobs at Blackburn

I'm afraid he is not the player he was.

The player alot on here were laughing at and slagging DC for signing looks set to sign for Man City now....

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2783762/It-could-be-You-for-Mancini.html

NEW Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is set to make Younes Kaboul his first signing in a shock £8million January swoop.

City are looking to bring in the much-improved Portsmouth star during next month's transfer window.
And it is believed a switch could be completed in the next few days. A source close to the deal said: "There is firm interest from Manchester City so we shall see how it develops in the next few days."
With £24m summer signing Joleon Lescott out until mid-February, Mancini desperately needs cover at the back.
And cash-strapped South Coast outfit Pompey are ready to offload their French centre-back.
Kaboul, 23, has adapted to the rigours of the Premier League at Fratton Park after an indifferent start to his career in England with Tottenham.
He has been one of the mainstays of Pompey's starting line-up this season and has even netted three times in 20 appearances, his last goal coming in a 1-1 draw at Sunderland on December 12.
The ex-France Under-21 international can also play as a defensive midfielder and can give Mancini different options.

We handled Kaboul badly. He had, and has, all the raw ingredients, but lacked guidance, lacked any faith being put in him, and played at a time when we were all over the place.

Kaboul is awful. Yes good a set pieces in the oppositions penalty area but clueless in his own. Always out of position and thinks he's better than he is and gets caught in posession all the time.
I'd love it if City bought him.

Kaboul will always hold a place near a warm part for scoring that equaliser for 4-4 against Villa in the 125 game. Other than that, meh.

Kaboul is still average off the ball compared to most, him and woodgate would have been a good partnership but thy didn't overlap. I hope City do ge thim to add to thier already over crowded list of CB's that are good on the ball but poor off it.

I can't think of a good enough CB thats going to be available and I wouldn't want to waste money and clogup a good squad with any old CB. Croluka and Huddlestone fill the average back up CB roles so why spend money on more average back up CB's?

I can't help thinking City will be aiming higher and I'm one who wouldn't mind kaboul back in our squad. I think he'll stay at Pompey .

French under-21 captain when we signed him, not that much of a gamble really. Had/has all the attributes to be a top defender plus he scored the equaliser in the 4-4 draw with villa last season - I will always love him for that and as such wish him all the best in his future endevours.
