I refer you too my answer above this post.

Just to add re Gerrard. There are days when Gerrard looks shit. (Most England performances for a start). Gerrard needs great players to carry him. Yes I know, once every ten games Gerrard will have a blinder and lift those around him, but his passing is hit and miss, ocasionally great occasionally piss poor (which is why Benitez doesn't trust him in cntral midfield).

Iniesta never, ever looks shit. For club or country.

That is a load of myth and balony there.

Let's take his England performances for a start, yes his form was patchy to poor under Eriksson and McLaren, but this was largely due to having no clear defined role in the side, playing with Lampard in the centre wherebye both of them became so confused and hesitant as to who should take certain responsiblities, ultimately meaning Gerrard usually dropped deeper into an un-natural anchoring role.

Since Capello has taken charge and installed him on the left, his form as been good, and the goals have started coming back too. Decent, sensible management has solved what should have never been a problem, and I expect him to do well in the World Cup.

As for Benitez "not trusting" him to play centre midfield, again that is just plain untrue. He likes to play two holding players who rarely get infront of the ball. When you have one of the most deadly strikers of ball around the box in world football, it makes no sense to play him in these deeper positions, that is just good management.

I certainly don't watch every Liverpool game, but from people I know who who do, your 1/10 playing well assertion makes no sense too.

As for Iniesta being aesthetic choice, I agree 100%. To me players like him, Cruyff, and Hoddle are true footballing beauty. All I am saying, is that you also need people with Gerrard's finishing power and considerable iron will in order to make a successfull team.

Xavi and Iniesta make the game look ridiculously easy, that is what i love about them. They always seem to have loads of time on the ball and even when they don't they can still find a killer pass. Xavi says his game is all down to the quality of coaching at youth level at Barca, being taught to play in triangles and always know what you are going to do with the ball before you get it.

I'm with BC and others, Iniesta is imo the best in the world at the moment, but then he does get to play alongside Xavi and Messi, both of whom would be in my top 5. Barca really do have an unbelievable side!

Actually it's impressive to see we have 2 players in there, despite not being in the CL (and 2 recent ex players as well).

BC you seem to be rating Fabregas and Iniesta because they are your favourite type of player rather than on their value to the team. For the past 2 seasons Ronaldo has has made more of a contribution to United than Iniesta has for Barca. Likewise, Gerrard has been more influential for Liverpool than Fabregas for Arsenal.

How Arshavin is higher than Fabregas is beyond me though, and how Clichy is so high and Eduardo is even in there also stinks of a gooner compiling this list. Eduardo has only just come back from breaking his leg and doesn't make Arsenal's starting eleven. If Eduardo is in there, so should Keane or Defoe.

I agree that Keane should be above Eduardo, definately.

EDIT: Having said that, his past 12 months havent been the best. Apart from the impact he made when he first came back to us, since then he's been average by his standards.

I would dispute that, at least for the previous season. I think Rooney was United's most important player last season. Ronaldo was good but looked disinterested at times.
Also Barca's first treble co-incided with Iniesta becoming a far more pivotal figure under Pep than he had been previously. (Of course Messi was in sublime form too.)

These top 100 lists seem to be a bit pointless, who cares who gets voted the 97th best player in the world. Top 10 I can see the point in but when you get to above 20 I get the feeling they are just reeling off names off the top of their heads.

Separate lists of top 10 or 20 Keepers, Defenders, Midfielders and Forwards would be a better, more interesting format.

Why on Earth is Dmytri Chrgrinsgky in there? Ahead of King, Woodgate, Nesta, Chivu etc? I would guess solely bacause he has just joined Barca for a big fee, which really isn't just cause.
