I refer you too my answer above this post.
Just to add re Gerrard. There are days when Gerrard looks shit. (Most England performances for a start). Gerrard needs great players to carry him. Yes I know, once every ten games Gerrard will have a blinder and lift those around him, but his passing is hit and miss, ocasionally great occasionally piss poor (which is why Benitez doesn't trust him in cntral midfield).
Iniesta never, ever looks shit. For club or country.
That is a load of myth and balony there.
Let's take his England performances for a start, yes his form was patchy to poor under Eriksson and McLaren, but this was largely due to having no clear defined role in the side, playing with Lampard in the centre wherebye both of them became so confused and hesitant as to who should take certain responsiblities, ultimately meaning Gerrard usually dropped deeper into an un-natural anchoring role.
Since Capello has taken charge and installed him on the left, his form as been good, and the goals have started coming back too. Decent, sensible management has solved what should have never been a problem, and I expect him to do well in the World Cup.
As for Benitez "not trusting" him to play centre midfield, again that is just plain untrue. He likes to play two holding players who rarely get infront of the ball. When you have one of the most deadly strikers of ball around the box in world football, it makes no sense to play him in these deeper positions, that is just good management.
I certainly don't watch every Liverpool game, but from people I know who who do, your 1/10 playing well assertion makes no sense too.
As for Iniesta being aesthetic choice, I agree 100%. To me players like him, Cruyff, and Hoddle are true footballing beauty. All I am saying, is that you also need people with Gerrard's finishing power and considerable iron will in order to make a successfull team.
