I got to thinking during yesterdays match, that Spurs never score freekicks. The last one, I remember us scoring was Bentley vs Wigan, which should have been an own goal anyway, as it hit the post then keepers back.

So why can't our team score a freekick on a regular basis, Bale was an expert at Southampton before we signed him, and he scored the 1 against the scum and thats it. Bentley used to be an expert, and also 1. Berbatov had that 1 off against the Hammers. Also in the lasagna season I remember Jenas scoring 2, one at Old trafford and one up at Middlesborough.

So why is it Spurs players can't score freekicks, I don't even get excited when we get one, because we never score them!

Not just free kicks though, we're not a threat from corners either, and for having someone who's the 2nd tallest player in the Prem in our side quite often, it's a poor return from set pieces in general.

you only got thinking about it yesterday lol....its been a disease for years.

Bale against the Scum was the last genuine one...Bentley's was deflected I think as on own goal.

Personally I would let Pav take them! At least he would work the keeper.

Bale was unlucky not to score against the Pikeys.

I remember Martin Chivers getting one, it was on MOTD.

There was a fuss at the time because they had a camera behind the goal at the other end of the ground and you could see that he bent it around the wall.

People talked about it as if there was witchcraft involved - it had never been seen before in an English game, I guess.

vdv has scored some for hamburg previous but dosent seem to hit them for us, same as bale at southampton. Kaboul has a rumour to hit a mean shot but he fluffs them.

How about huddlestone? also he is 6ft 5 and is never in the box for corners, yes he cant head but he will cause confusion.

spurs have been reasnoble at free kicks before though and corners in terms of delivery jenas has a decent delivery and i remember us scoring alot more corners and from inswining free kicks before this season, wouldnt mind seeing some stats.

at least kaboul scored v the arse :)

Let Sandro take them

Actually why does Pav not take free kicks? He's lethal from outside the area

The last free kick we scored was Bentley vs Fulham, was deflected, but credited to him.

Been debated to great length and have all come to the same conclusion that yes, we are shit at set-pieces.

Pav has taken a few, they are mostly awful.

Bale could have scored one this season, Jenas was really close, VdV has been awful, Kaboul aswell...

It doesn't bother me too much, unless you play with someone like Juninho you won't score more than a few a season anyway.

Hudd or Kaboul should blast one now and again! even if they hit the wall it would make the next wall very nervous. It would be better than Bale or VDV chipping the ball into the crowd every time.

Hang on, wait a minute - surely it won't be a problem next year with Becks taking all the freekicks and corners!

Love the Kaboulets but they are never going in. I think if he had a shot from every freekick we get in a season we would only have one hit the net.

I guess Huddles isn't as good as Kaboul at driving one home so that's why he doesn't try them.

Bale and VDV have been disappointing. I have expected a couple from them both over the course of the season but it appears that we are cursed for scoring them.

To solve the issue though. Sign Leighton Baines! No pens or free kicks will be missed ever again  Decent for corners as well.

i HATE when we get freekicks because we always shoot without fail and screw it up. it's rarely even close half the time. we should be passing really.

granted 1 free kick vs another, it might be better to shoot, but take 5 kicks in a match, and id rather get 3 or 4 promising attacks out of them than 4 bad misses and an easy save.

Bale should take our corners and free-kicks within scoring range.

When he was a young lad at Southampton he was famous for scoring from free-kicks so what do we do, we don't let him take 'em for us!

I also remember in his early matches for us his corners were excellent.

It'd be nice if we tried to be clever with free-kicks once in a while. O'Hara scored a very crafty little free-kick routine at the weekend for Wolves that had evidently been practised on the training ground. Wish we'd have a go at something different like that once in a while. Zanetti vs England in the World Cup was another great example - you don't have to do it all the time, but one or two occasions of that kind of thinking during the course of a season really has the potential to catch the opposition out.
