I'd imagine Soldado is being rested which is why Defoe starts. Soldado played Sunday, Thursday, Sunday and will probably play again this weekend. I thought Paulinho and Soldado linked up well v United so a bit disappointed but understand if Soldado is tired as he runs around a fair bit.

So much whining every time the lineup is announced! We have a big squad which needs to be rotated to keep players fresh, interested and hungry. Its better people get used to this mentality.

What's the need for rotating Soldado? Paulinho has been run into the ground yet still plays week in week out.

For me this was one of those games where Soldado could really kick start his career with us.

I don't mind healthy competition for the lone striker role but only if the other candidate had the necessary qualities. This seems to be pointless rotation to appease Defoe.

To keep Defoe motivated. By giving him a chance it sends a message to Soldado that his place is notguaranteed so he needs to up his game. It also proves to Defoe that he will get a chance if he performs in training/cup matches. Good squad management.

Pleased for JD, hard to justify not giving him a game given Soldados form ..... that said slightly disappointed we haven't gone with a consistent selection, aside from necessary changes due to injury

guessing dembele is being rested for the weekend because he is looking good for the first time since the injury but seemed to take a big wack there at the weekend.
defoe for soldado is one where as a fan you feel frustrated but have to understand that from AVB's point of view he just wants a goal from a striker and robbie is looking short of confidence

lennon playing well so need to ride him until his form dips

Why does AVB keep sticking Lamela out of position on the left!!!! What is the point, he doesn't look comfortable there and it's not going to do much for his confidence if he puts in another poor performance because of this. What's wrong with playing Townsend left and Lamela centre! I don't understand.

Peeps love a good moan. Team is good. Lamela on the left is fine, people have got it into their head that he can only play in one position but we signed him for his ability across the whole front line.

Capoue and Sandro aren't the same player and I suspect we will see a ball carrying Capoue tonight rather than a defensive destroyer.

Soldado probably needed to be benched. Defoe probably needed a start, if anything to get the media to stop using his name as a battering ram for AVB.

Still confident although an early goal would help us hugely.
