LATEST TRANSFER GOSSIP
Gareth Bale's proposed world-record move to Real Madrid has temporarily been put on hold, according to Press Association Sport.
Reports had suggested that the Tottenham forward would finalise a £93m transfer to the Spanish capital on Friday. But Press Association Sport is reporting that Spurs are unwilling to sanction Bale's move until they have signed at least one new player to fill the Welshman's position.

If that's the case then let Chelsea have Willian. They don't need him anyway. As good as Willian and Lamela may be, both now and in the future, neither of them would have the impact and influence on the team that Bale does. This is the season where we have a real chance to put ourselves amongst the big players and be title/top four contenders and having Bale in the team gives us a better chance of that than Willian or Lamela will. It's either both of them, or Bale stays.

I'd love that to be true - and I hold out a foolish hope that it is.

I like how sky have a reporter at the bernabaeu waiting for the announcement and end up only being able to confirm that Bale turns up at the training ground

It's not foolish. Remind yourself what Levy said after we replaced Berbatov with a season's worth of Frazier Campbell. If Willian goes to Chelsea and we don't sign Lamela I wouldn't expect Levy to be too eager to do any business with Real, record fee or not.

I find it very unlikely that he would be rocking up at the Spurs training ground this morning if he was due in Madrid tomorrow for an unveiling. Yet that's exactly what he's done.

I find it very hard to believe that we would let Bale go for a massive fee without confirming Lamela (who we need) and even more so after the whole Willian transfer. Every selling club would hike up their prices especially as we are soon to be in the last week of the transfer window.

I know we have had our fair share of last minute transfers without proper replacements - VDV, Berbatov but letting Bale go now without Lamela + a creative player would have an effect. Don't get me wrong our signings thus far have been superb, Soldado and Capoue are wonderful signings but without the further additions the team will suffer over the course of the season.

I will be amazed if we sell Bale before getting in at least 2 players. Levy has seen right now how transfers are not done until they are done so I don't think he will sanction selling Bale until we have officially signed a couple of players, not just passing medicals.
