Matic almost didn't make it as a footballer, which is a sad indictment on some of the politics in Serbian football, a country which always seems to create good talent, but doesn't always help it. I heard the Belgrade clubs took or do still take payments from the mafia to have their sons be taken into the youth teams, often in favour over more talented players.

Matic bounced around the Belgrade clubs as a younger guy, unable to get a proper chance. He worked in coal mines and was almost at the point of giving up when his player friend told him to come out to Slovenia/Slovakia can't remember which, and give it one more go. He decided to go but was ready to go back to the mines if it didn't pan out. Luckily for him it did.

Buying Matic for £40m makes no sense when they had Schneiderlin on their books yet never played him.

As for City, things seem to have gone quiet. Good for us re Walker, but wasn't Mendy 'imminent' just hours after Bernardo Silva joined?

I'm still hoping he'll walk before the start of the season. I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility.

I have a feeling Silva will be a very good coach for Hughes too, given his skillset. In many ways he's much more suited to the PL than the rough-and-tumble Championship.

Reasonable fee too, if he has a decent season he'll be getting linked with moves for 3 times that next summer. Shows there is still value to be had in the market as well.

He'd be perfect, marquee, premier league experience, covers lwf and Striker and is also a bloody good player.

This requires a lot of convincing. Problem is that he prefers in CF position but he is more of a 2nd forward just behind Kane.

Might upset Alli or Eriksen.... anyway not a story.

Could rotate with Dele, or play up top to give Kane a rest, just gives us more attacking options, shame they wouldn't sell to us.

He has a good brain but since mclaren left he wasnt dictating play and being a leader then the issue became last season was the first season he has progressed but then he struggled with injuries in the last two seasons

He shouldn't been playing in the premier league a long time ago, tbh as he wasnt ready
