Not sure wimmer is the answer tbh but I agree he deserves a run in the side until vertongon is fit. I've said it before and I'll say it again dier is not good enough to play in a cb 2 for us, he proves it time and time again

He is good enough, but he needs to play on the right of the defence rather than the left, and he's a much better defensive midfielder than he is centre back. Wimmer hasn't been so bad to warrant being left out of the team almost entirely whilst Jan's been out. It's virtually moot now though as Jan should be back if not on Sunday then for the second leg.

Wishful thinking because Pochettino will never drop Wanyama, but I hope when Jan's back in the team we return to the Dier-Dembele midfield that was such an effective core of our most balanced team in years.

A grim watch, we created one decent chance all game, the only positive is that if we treat this as half time we're only 1-0 down, hopefully this mini slump will end soon, with all the fuss about our neighbours humiliation last night, I doubt whether the media will be making as much of it as they could have done, but that ain't saying much.

Time to stand up and be counted, COYS pull your finger out !

I very very rarely get on Spurs but today I weakened and had £20 on thinking I'd nick a cheeky twenty quid. I'm so fucking weak........and stupid :D

I had £20 on Gent at 7/2 at halftime - you could see it was going to be one of those European games.

It's obvious that the first 11 needs shaking up in the summer.

It's no good buying squad fillers when the first 11 on the team sheet are so assured of their places, and then put in performances like they have recently pretty much knowing there's very little competition for their places.

Desperately need Lamela back as he could be pressuring all the forward positions and we miss his urgency and directness so badly.

We can't play with Wanyama, Dembele, Winks in the middfield if we are playing 4 at the back. Poch has to see it. With 3 at the back, Rose and Walker give us additional power and their numbers are really good. Rose 2 assists, 2 goals. Walker 6 assists. When we play 4 at the back, fullbacks have to remember about defence.

Not when they have a DM who actually drops back into the centre backs like we did last season. Rose and Walker's average positions are pretty much the same whether we play three or four at the back.

The problem is Davies is a solid enough defender but nowhere near as attack minded as Rose, and only having Alli as a genuine attacker supporting Kane is asking for trouble. Was anyone really expecting a goal to come from Sissoko, Dembele, Wanyama or Winks?

That's exactly what 'Arry was saying about Arsenal in his Evening Standard column today...

Only Wanyama has challenged last season's starting XI, but he's now part of that same problem because he's undroppable in Pochettino's eyes.

Didn't see the game today, but it was 4th match in a row we couldn't score from open play. Poch needs to sort this asap!

The key word being BALANCE.
And MoPO is guilty, as almost every Spurs manager before him has been, of putting square pegs in round holes and hoping they're good enough.
What baffles me - is that MoPo has cracked the "balance" on numerous occasions - but when he has to deal with a first team player's injury - he doesn't replace like for like - he changes the whole freaking set up and completely kills a winning formula. I've never complained about MoPo - but he needs to get this reality check PDQ.

Maybe it's better to get knocked out of all the cup competitions like Pool. I fear for our league form with this thin squad. Kane already hurt again.

Fulham are 3/1 on Sunday.............The way we've been playing they must be nailed on.

That's actually not bad... I never bet on a positive Spurs result - not because I'm a miserable git who thinks we'll lose every week - I rarely bet on Spurs at all. But to lose a game and a bet at the same time would be doubly disappointing, so betting against us at least relieves some of the negativity when we lose, and if we win I'm glad I lost the bet as we won!

I also only ever bet against us after watching the first 15-20 minutes of a game - if we are going to be shit, you always seem to be able to tell quite early (especially in Europe). So I'll watch the Fulham game and see how we and they start off...

The only advantage in terms of getting knocked out of things would be to avoid European football for a season, so we could have a domestic charge season like Chelsea and Liverpool. But I think the potential financial pain from not being in Europe, plus the affect it may have on players wanting to leave, would be too dangerous to risk.

We should be trying to win the FA Cup IMO more than anything else. This team needs to win something or we'll look back on it as a wasted squad, like the Redknapp era, though at least then we made the later rounds of the cups and nearly won one, and made an impression in the CL. We're throwing the cups away these days with no obvious gains from it.

That's pretty much how I see things, although today my bet was tainted by the cockiness brought on by a winning streak,.......And that ain't happening again :D

Typical europa league game from us that was, none of them give a fuck about it and I think we're purposely throwing it.

Keane calls it right, the problem that I feel has been a cancer at the heart of our club for years: we think we can win by just turning up. You have to earn the glory.

I don't think it is, we need to build a winning mentality at the club and we won't do that if players are ok with going out of cup competitions. Honestly there is no team that frightens me in the Europa.

I rated Agree because I think that first sentence is spot on, we absolutely do need to get a cup under our belt to get our players used to winning trophies: abso-bloody-exactly right.

However, there is a team that frightens me in the Europa... sadly it's our own!
